Sennheiser MKE direct into GH1 vs H4n

I finally got around to comparing the quality of audio between my Sennheiser MKE400 going directly into the GH1 vs using the H4n recorder with a shotgun Mic.

Let me know what you think.

I also added the MKE400 audio with a FCP filter so you can see the difference. I didn't mess with it much, so I'm sure you can work with it even more.

Can you list which is A / B / C combination? Which is directly into the Gh1?

The configs are listed after the first three comparisons. The MKE400 is always direct into GH1, I just added a variation with a 3-band EQ filter I used in Final Cut, to see if it would remove much of the BG noise from the AGC. Not too bad from a noise standpoint.

The H4n was connected to my AT4073 Shotgun mic and was placed right next to the GH1 with MKE400, so the distance is virtually identical at about 4-5 feet away.

If I can make a suggestion for audio.
Most recording studios have surfaces around the subject that dampen and absorb echo, and ringing feedback.
Why don't you try another test with soft surfaces such as curtains, carpet, etc maybe even sit your subject on a sofa, then compare to the first test. You can go further and hang some sound absorbing materials to the sides out of frame, such as carpet sections or blankets. You'll see that if you dampen the area your mic will only be picking up the original source and none of the ringing.
I'd be very interested in a direct comparison between the H4N and direct to the GH-1 from the mic.
Raw tests from the camera and recorder without correction in the computer may tell us more about the quality difference. We can and always do modify audio in post, but it's nice to see how it does on it's own too.
Thanks for the test.
