Sennheiser H2 w/ omni questions

I have a Sennheiser EW 100 series G3, with the ME 2 omni mic that I purchased for use with the AF100. My first question, is will this mic work okay on the AF100, or will it need the inline attenuation? My second question is, I'm currently using this mic as a dual purpose to record some voice overs in a studio -- it's actually just an untreated office right now, which is why I'm using a lav. for voiceover, so I can minimize the room tone from the computer fans and A/C. I tried inputting the mic into my PC using an evaluation Matrox MXO2 LE, both the XLR and RCA inputs, but to get a loud enough signal I had to set the sensitivity to 0 on the transmitter, and the AF Out on the receiver to +12. I'm getting a ZED-10 mixer, but I'm wondering if I can get a 3.5 mm female TRS input -> balanced male XLR cable, and run the ME 2 mic as a wired mic into the mixer to get a balanced signal?

Should work just fine with the AF 100. You need to scout out the best input settings: some times -18 for AF out of the receiver works well with mic level input on the lower end panasonic cameras... At least it did in most cases for me.

Thanks! Now anyone know if it's possible to run the mic direct into a mixer (into a Mac), bypassing the sensitivity controls and AF Out controls on the sennheiser transmitter/receiver (to get a balanced, and higher quality signal)?

Sadly not. Those tiny omni condensers need power, but not the 48V your mixer would supply. Some of the better lavaliere microphones can be purchased as "wired" with a big, inline-pad-size, XLR preamp. Others, like DPA and Rode for example, have adapters for exactly what you want, but they won't work with the ME-2 kit mics of the EW 100 G3 system.

Your idea of using a lav for VO in less-than-stellar environments is a great one, you just need a different lav. I've also found that for really inexperienced talent, a lav has the added benefit of removing the "giant mic in your face" effect from the equation. People are much less self conscious with them than they are with, say, 416s or U-87s.

NB: take this for what it is... a single opinion. It's possible I'm wrong so don't just take my word for it. :) Best of luck!
