sending dvcpro hd to an out of date avid shop...

ok, more ongoing issues sending my footage (dvcproHD captured in FCP then downconverted to SD) to a pretty outdated avid shop.

they asked me for "normal quicktime" i told them that that was not a format. then they said animation codec. i said fine. and exported my footage as SD animation codec. well it turns out they also cant read a mac formatted drive and are too dumb or too lazy to remedy that for themselves - but thats another story.

so i asked him to be specific about what type of footage he needed to make his world complete. and his replay was:

"Avid language for us is .mxf"

does that make any sense?

wouldnt an avid suite be best off with meridian or avid DV or DNxHD or whatever avid specific format?

ok, cool. so when he asked me to export the footage as animation compressed SD, is that about the best im going to be able to do for him? i was shooting to deliver something that would be a bit more immediately ingestable...

I think unless you can do the 'send to p2' function like avid can. I don't work with fcp so I'm not sure if it has that option. You'd have to give him the P2 cards though. I think the guy was trying to think of the least compressed quicktime file available. Again, I'm not sure what compressor can do but in avid you can choose 'quicktime' and set the compression as 'none'. That works perfectly for me when exporting from AE to Avid or vice versa. You'll still get the mac formatted external HD problem though unless you burn the file on a dvd.

ive already bought a drive specifically for them and formatted it fat32, so that part is handled. i just wondered if there wasnt a little more i could do to smooth the exchange...
