Selling my brand-new DVX100A for reduced price!!!

Hi everyone,

I purchased my DVX100A from Willoughby's, an authorized dealer, less than a week ago and want to sell it. It is brand-new, (the meter reads 000H for proof of this), unused, perfect condition with all accessories and packaging just as you would receive it new,

plus,

20 Panasonic 63 min. MQ tapes,

plus,

a multi-coated 72mm Contax UV filter, ($50)

I will sell it for $3450 even, (no tax, shipping INCLUDED).

In other words, I will take a loss of a few hundred dollars if anyone's interested in getting this new camera.

I removed it from the box and looked it over for about five minutes and have had buyer's remorse. I have a newborn who needs every spare moment, (and dollar), I've got right now.

I could return it to the dealer but would rather lose a few hundred than pay a 15% restocking fee of 3-4 hundred.

I'm posting here to avoid the ebaY commission, but so you know I'm not a sketchy anonymous internet guy you can see I've been registered here a while and can view my old posts, AND, see my positive user feedback on ebaY, (250 positives).

Thanks! Send me a message if interested!!!

John,

Thanks for the encouragement. You sound like me a few weeks ago when I was encouraging another disenchanted soul. My problem, I suppose, is that I tend to over analyze.

I love the picture you chose for your user ID, by the way.

So many people say that about the avatar; it is kind of cool...

Im serious. I have a 4 year old and my wife says "If you're gonna do it; do it now"

Dont panic just yet. Put it away in the closet and relax. Im not sure what your goals are (I cant imagine you bought a DVX for just taping bdays) but youll be sooooooooooo glad you kept it in the end! Im sorry. Im prying.

Im just saying "If you have a dream; dont give up!" My 4 year old wouldnt want me goving up my dreams! I have to set an example for his crazy monkey butt!

Okay. Im off the soapbox. Film!

savethestars, I just got off a 12 hour day shooting a behind the scenes of an Atari game for the director. Never would of happened without the DVX. It has changed my life. But so did my kids to be fair. Just think about it. 8)

Re: Selling my brand-new DVX100A for reduced price

John and Elvis,

It's funny about having kids...on the one hand you feel like it's time to crunch numbers and put aside the risk-taking for now, build a future, get a house or a bigger house, find higher-paying jobs and so on...

...but I do agree about the not giving up your dreams. That seems to be one of the worst things you can do.

I have known a few people who did just that and almost seem to resent their kids, as if their kids stole their chances. I personally think it's crazy to have that attitude.

By the way John, you're lucky you have a supporting wife who says something like that and not, "You have a four year old son John, ditch the camera and pick up the briefcase."

I've heard others talk about the DVX100A being their baby. It's funny how much fun it is to figure out a camera, and how much more fun it is to play with and try to figure out a baby. A baby is a lot of work, but it's all worth it and more than the work you put in, you get more joy out of it.

I suppose that is true of the DVX as well, but there's quite a learning curve.

Totally unrelated--but isn't it great that they finally made a camera in this price range that doesn't insult your intelligence with a memory card still photo mode?

There's so much to like about the DVX100A...

Just out of curiousity, (now I'm rambling), do you guys advise against shooting things at +12db? What are the worst consequences of shooting this way?

Hey boogerg---is buydig.com really an authorized dealer by Panasonic for that price? I thought about ordering from them a long time ago but I got scared off for some reason. Do they have good user ratings? Just curious.

Re: Selling my brand-new DVX100A for reduced price

after all that hassle about not knowing if the camera was new, finally finding out everything was fine and now after all our talk about working together you are going to sell the thing. Are you still keeping your computer with fcp. I would be willing by the way to probably buy you tapes for a discount price. But please don't sell.

Stars.. Are you on medication??? just a joke.. Let me be Dr. Phil for a moment.. But, Sauling is right.. you were all torn up about the camera being new, now you want to send it back..
Keep the camera and make a living with it become self sufficient.
I know the learning curve seems steep but I bought mine a week ago .. I have spent about 3 hours in the field with it.. It all seemed overwhelming but now Im getting the jist and all of those buttons and features seem to be easy after awhile.. Try it and find out.. And dont you dare sell that camera.. that will give you even moreso remorse thinking about what could have been and how much money you lost because of not having a clear vision for the future.. : ) Good luck

Re: Selling my brand-new DVX100A for reduced price

Hi savethestars,

Here's something else to think about. What is the most risky for you? I've spent much of the last 15 years chasing money with the briefcase. My heart hasn't been in it. I've had some success, but I've seen quite a bit of failure, too.

Within the next two weeks I'll be purchasing a DVX. I'm starting a business that will have me doing the type of things that I dreamed about doing as a kid. I'll be doing the things I used to talk about with my friends in high school and college. I'm now following my heart more than the dollar.

Mind you, I've also done some homework. I've spent the last couple of years working for a video production company. Before that, I spent several years running my own company and working with other types of media (Internet). I've also developed a detailed business plan and formed an LLC with an exceptional partner.

But even with all the homework, I know I'm taking large risks. The risks are multiplied when you consider my four kids (my wife and I are expecting the fifth in June). And the risks are in-my-face scary because we lost a lot of money a few years ago and we're still struggling a bit financially.

Why am I taking these risks instead of pursuing the stable salary? Well, I've come to the conclussion that I will ultimately be more successful performing work that I can put my heart into. I hope time proves me right.

I wish you the best of luck with the new addition to your family. Maybe now isn't the time for you to keep your DVX, but even though you are hearing the call to chase dollars, you might not want to chase those dollars for the sake of money alone.

Re: Selling my brand-new DVX100A for reduced price

yep, money doesnt buy you happiness. i dont know of any rich people that are any happier than the less successful people. sides .. look at it this way. you spend nearly 1/3 to 1/2 of your life at work. in a normal day you work 8 or so hours, and are only awake for another 8 or so. then theres off days, and your childhood( which is over) , and retirement(which you may never live to see) that breaks this cycle. so you better enjow your work. people who can put their heart, and talent into their jobs are the luckiest people. and they honestly do seem happier. stress kills more people than any disease. if you consider that heart attacks, and suicide, and people drinking away the troubles and driving, and postal worker types, and people doing other crazy things, and all sorts of mental, and physical illnesses are brought on by stress too numerous to list... all a result of stress. it also kills peoples relationships, and other stuff. mostly brought on by someones workplace. people just arent meant to live in this fast paced world where we try to medicate everything to cover up the symptoms of the real underlying issues, and lose weight by popouing pills, and nuke our food in a microwave, and pick up bread that needs the nutireints from actual grain put back in it cause we like to eat it without any of it in there even though thats what its supposed to be made of. and blah blah blah,, on and on. its just not worth it. time after time ive considered just dropping it all, and living in a hut somwhere in south america or somthing. anyway point is..if you want to do somthing for your family. give them the gift of having a nice loving father. not one who cares more about putting better clothes on their backs than having the time to be with them. (not saying thats what your doing or suggesting) but the american way sucks. we trade our hearts, minds, families, and values for the almighty dollar. and truth be told it leaves us empty handed - broken hearted and bitter, and finally realizing whats truly important when were too old and grey to actually enjoy the things anymore, or dead.....

ok.. sorry bout that. i just got carried away there. but ill leave it there i guess.
