Looking for a few expert opinions.

Wondering if I should sell my XH-A1 and Rode NTG-1 shotgun, and replace it with 60d + Rode NTG-2 shotgun + Zoom H4N.

Pros and cons? Is keeping both a redundancy?

i use 2 XH-A1's and 3 T2i's.

there are reasons for using both or either over the other; best scenario use both. what will you be shooting?

in brief, for weddings, concerts, events, the longer recording time of the XH A1 is needed. for low light or crisper HD with shallower DOF for say short films, ads, handheld, or a B cam for weddings, the T2i is great. However the T2i has some unique problems; 12 minute max HD recording length, CMOS jello and movement/rolling shutter issues, and (supposedly) overheating issues along with no during-filming full HD video out feed; its only SD via the HDMI or RCA outs.

The XH A1 is bulky but has full HD component out, fully easy to access (no menu or weird presses BS) to critical controls, built in ND filters, stabilization, XLR and manual audio, and a MUCH longer max record time.

I use both for the same projects, for different reasons. i would NEVER use the T2i as a main wedding camera; i use 2 of them for B-roll or angle shots. I would NEVER use the XH A1 for indoor handheld work, especially with a Letus adapter; i would need 3,000-4,000 watts of juice to shoot grain free vs what i can get out of the T2i (assuming there are no fluorescents or i shoot at 1/60)

Together, they are a great pair; each has strengths that covers the others' weaknesses; i would not choose one over the other; they are totally different approaches to video, but they can do great work together.

If you are using it to shoot anything over 12 min in length, No.
Also DSLR not great for handheld work.

Most things I shoot are shorter than 12 minute takes. Though there are exceptions.

And the handheld work thing, good point. Though maybe it's less of an issue given the 60d's articulating LCD screen. (Though I would surely miss the A1's stabilizer.)

Zissou, thanks for your input too. How well does A1 footage intercut with 7d/60d footage?

i have yet to intercut 7D/60D with the XH A1, but all that which i can read seems to point to them having identical sensors. it took me a day or two to tweak the two cameras to get close, and then made a custom preset in CS5 premiere pro to color correct both.

i actually prefer the T2i handheld, but i have pretty stable hands and IS lenses, or i use a small tripod as a steadycam.

I have a sound question which is part of this discussion:

Is it possible to run a Rode NTG-2 directly into a 60d, using a XLR to 1/8" cable? Or is some adapter like a Beachtek needed?

you could use the XLR to 1/8 adapter and NTG-2 with a battery in it, but you (may) get some background noise; just make sure the cables are well insulated; i would wrap the connections with electrical tape and around the mic jack as well.
