'See Impossible': Canon counts down to... something. *UPDATED*

People renting them. Shows being shot on them.

If you want to know the why's of that, it then comes to opinion. Mine is that they make pleasing images out of the box, no fuss - like Arri.

Well I just looked at this link and maybe it's just me, but I don't see this
clear domination of Canon in the cinema cam arena that you reference.
Looks to me like there is a pretty good mix of cams being used, which
is exactly what I would expect.

Seems the 5d is used a lot as a Bcam. I'm sure we'll see different lists come out later when the C series has been around longer.

I don't know that canon is really trying to take on Red and Arri just yet. But they seem to be working up to it slowly.

If you only get your information on the film industry from reading the internet, I see how you might be misled. From first hand, real world experience I can tell you that Sony, Panasonic, and yes even Red are not renting out much at all these days, with most productions preferring Arri or Canon. I'm not sure where the inaccurate PR spins originate, but said lists referenced are just as erroneous as the BS lists that are circulated on Reduser - I know at least some of the films listed (those I was involved with in particular) have extremely inaccurate reporting happening. I never knew "montanafilmmaker", or whatever it is they reference heavily, to be an authority in the first place.

And referencing the ancient Avatar in a discussion of the current landscape of cameras is beyond a joke - when that production was started, Sony was just about your only option if you wanted to shoot digitally. They certainly did it first, but I really don't think they ever came close to doing it best.

I'm still counting about 90% negative comments on dpreview. If Canon becomes the king of the rental market but loses the owner market (photogs buying DSLRs and mirrorless cameras), it will go down. Or maybe it won't. I'll be happy either way (I hope).
And yes, I saw the chart from the last page: they still have the biggest share of the DSLR market, but their share is falling and the market is shrinking, and those comments on dpreview are an early indicator of bigger falls ahead.

Well on big Hollywood films, I pretty much have to get my information off the internet
as I don't live in LA and work on them. We've had 'The Frozen Ground', 'Big Miracle',
and 'Walking with Dinosaurs' shot here in Alaska in the last few years and none of them
used Canon . And from my firsthand experience, plenty of Red's and Sony's are being rented
and used, but my firsthand experience is much more in TV shows and documentaries than feature
films. So maybe it depends on your market?

I just stumbled on this thread, and I have to say it's close to the most ridiculous I've ever read on DVXuser. I've got nothing else to say other than the internet and the real world are two very different places; it's up to you to decide where you want to live.

Some year ago I bought a Canon 550D or 60D I dont remember (i think was the 550D), the video was extremely noise. I returned the camera a few days after purchase, simply horrible, at the day, with lot of sun, lot of noise on the streets, every where, then never get anymore any canon.

OK guys, this is no longer funny!

Some year ago I was held up by a Canon 550D holding a loaded turkey sandwich. At least I think it was a 550D. Kind of hard to pick out of the lineup as All those 550D & 60D look alike.

About a year ago I was shooting a sandwich with a canon dslr. I was using a 550d, 60d, 5d, 7d, 1dx and a powershot. I had all the angles covered. Or so I thought. Out of nowhere the sandwich grew a pair of legs and arms. We were both startled the sandwich and I. The sandwich then grabbed my 5d and made for the door. I wasn't finished with the shoot so I ran after the sandwich. By now the shots I was getting were very shaky, so I quickly balanced my brand new 7d mark II on the DJI Ronin. I pursued the sandwich through the parking lot getting some good follow shots. Suddenly, the sandwich turned and faced up to me. I thought it was out of breath and was to give in and come back inside to finish the shoot. Not a chance. The sandwich pulled out a stranger danger whistle and blew into it with powerful fury. I'm like, "hey sandwich, cool it! Settle down and let's find a way we can finish this shoot". Then, the sandwich stepped closer to me and gave me a swift kick to the Jimmy and dropped me to my knees. I looked up at the sandwich and asked, "what gives, BLT"? Then the sandwich magically replied, "it's almost 2015 and you're photographing me with 2 or 3 year old tech and I'm not having any of it". I put my pocket breathalyzer down and realized after blowing a .02 that I was infact talking with a sandwich. I then told the sandwich, "look you prissy good for nothing lunch-able. Since 2008 every digital camera I've used has be of top notch quality. I've been blessed to run my business with such devices. I've ran each one into the ground and they have returned 100 fold financially back to me. Each one has been just a joy to work with. And I will continue to work with camera that suit my need or the job. After all, it's I taking the photograph, not the camera". The sandwich scratched his sprouts for a bit and then replied, "I demand being shot with 16 stops DR at 85,000 ISO"!!! I shook my head and stood up to tell the sandwich, "I don't need that kind of ISO. I use lights to make you look good. And I really don't think 16 stops of DR is going to help make you look any better either. You'll just end up looking flat. Like a pancake". The sandwich was obliviously insulted being called another meal. He quickly turned and ran off, eventually jumping over the parking lot wall. I thought about giving chase with my phantom 2 and GoPro 4. But then I remembered that some people in here will complain about its bitrate or lack of manual exposure settings...........

If someone in here would take all the things in this thread and turn it into some sort of short movie...we would all be your best friend forever.
