GH4 Second GH4 now or wait for GH5?

You may be right.
I do hope they inculde unlimited IBIS for video and a better (10bit/422) h265 codec.

But you will never be able to get that razor thin depth of field that a full frame camera can offer, if that's important to you.

Someone please tell my 42.5 1.2 lens its not shallow enough, or my sigma 18-35 with a speed booster... You can reach un usable DOF on a Gh4 with ease guys. Not poking fun or being a jerk, but I have to tell you with that 1.2 I can focus on the nose and then blur the ears :) My 25mm 1.4 is pretty shallow as well... not as much as FF but some of that is not even usable. Also I love setting my 12.-35 2.8 on a subject and know there whole body is in focus not problem. Might just be me but MFT is a perfect size for most people.

Also, I would guess that giving Vlog to the GH4 will extend its life and give panny a chance to catch up on the tech coming up. Or they can announce a gh5 on Sept 1st. Or they can announce they are bought by Cannon and have stopped all RND because people don't need 4k. lol

But I will say to have a announcement on Sept 1st to say Vlog is coming is silly... they should just make it available to the market.. we all know its coming :)

You're also all forgetting the whole point of m4/3's, its tiny, its light, its adaptable, doesn't require huge glass...carry it all day with little fatigue. It doesn't overheat. And as Jason Rae said, you can get razor thin dof with the right lens and there are tons of options out there for it now. If you do a lot of low light, then get a camera that's good for low light, if you need high frame rates, get an appropriate camera for the job at hand... Most pro video is lit, so m4/3 is not a problem. For most video work on the web, the gh4 is overkill. Heck we still really don't have a great delivery vehicle for 4k, most don't even have 4k TV's yet, now there's going to be a battle between 4k and 4k HDR TV's to try to get consumer buy in...3D was a failure, and h.265 wants silly licensing fees again. For we the shooters, 4k is great because it gives us cropping options, higher resolution almost always looks better when down-converted. But jeesh, I have 75Mbps FIOS and I still have trouble with YouTube streaming 2K let alone 4K reliably. So we have other bottle necks that are going to be an issue until they're worked out far beyond sensor size. I love its flexibility and still use my af100 and gh3...heck still use my HMC150. Oh and people still want DVD's over Blu-ray!!! Go figure.

Off topic but my streaming got a lot worse since the Net Neutrality was passed. The carriers can't discriminate anymore, so they throttle everything equally. It'd be interesting to see what happens with speeds once the 4K Blu-Ray comes out. As of now, the broadband owners have no competition for 4K and, with that, the ability to slow everything down. My "tested" speed registers as capable of 1440p but, with the exception of the early morning hours, it buffers like crazy.

I can't see Panasonic leaving the GH4 out there as-is for too long now that the GX8 is out with the newer 20 MP sensor. That 16 MP sensor has been around for quite a while now.

It also looks like they "crippled" the GX8 a bit, to leave room for a GH5. Although it has no video time limit and has 4K video, the HDMI out is killed when you start recording internally. So no external monitor. At least according to this YouTube video comparing the GX8 to the GH4:

I guess that the $795 G7 (with the 16 MP sensor) also kills the HDMI output when you start recording internally.
