Here is some stuff I shot over the weekend - download the file gulldog.mov and watch it full screen - the orginal file looks sooooo much better than this though, especially on a plasma

check out some of the other MOV files - I love this thing and have been playing with it ever since I was banned 2 weeks ago

RGD sure you've the secret for NO NOISE picture. You must teach us about it! Great WORK!

RGD nice work on the post. What is your secret for low noise??

Plus I am a new FCP user and while the H.264 codec appears as
a choice I get a codec error. I am playing with 1080 30p clips.
I can export a 480x260 QT file in other codecs??

ahhh.. is there a little of Dean and Gene Ween in here? I got to videotape those guys and hang out for a gig here in town.

Very nice looking stuff. What are your settings? Good focus too are you using an external or using the focus assist?

Thanks and I just got my camera today... WOO HOO

Justyn that is aweome. I've never seen them in concert. My girlfriend caught them at the Wiltern a few years ago here in LA but they haven't been around since. I hope they kick the big H -

I've been shooting w/ Cinelike_D , -3 detail, coring all the way up - I'm using Compressor 2 on a Mac to turn them into H.264 files at 640x360 - 1800 kb/s -

There is noise on the images. The camera DOES produce noise in shadow areas, you just can't see it on these clips , however, that being said, the noise is sooooooooooo not an issue at all - if you're a visual nerd and are looking for it, your eyes will go to it and they will stay there - regular people don't notice it at all - every single person I've shown footage to this camera all have the same reaction, "whoa, holy sh*t that's clear!" - no one ever has said yet, this camera is crap, look at all that noise - you guys have to test it out on a few monitors and see for yourself, its not an issue though

check out this random dumb thing my friend bob and I shot today http://www.richard-darge.com/HD/bob.mov

God bless Frank Zappa

Thanks for input on the noise issue.

I've been pooping bricks for the last three days.... my HVX is on the way, and the ghost of buyer's remorse hangs over me.

If you aint' hung up about the noise issue, then I'm gonna relax.

Wish everyone who has an HVX would comment on it... or else the ones who think there's a problem will distort the picture. I'm not saying their complaints are not legitimate, but I need to keep things in perspective. Mebbe we need a POLL.

Your stuff looks great. :)

Richard,

Good stuff man. I'm really digging the stream of consciousness stuff. I get the sense you're shooting more because of the workflow speed. Shoot = Edit. Must be sweet to not have capture time. I'm jealous.

Richard,

I don't know what it is about your work, but I find it strangely appealing. There's a certain order in the randomness of the images you edit together that keeps my interest.

Good stuff,

Keep it up.

Thank you guys for the warm comments ! I love p2 and this ability to cut almost immediatley - it's really changing how I conduct myself - that being said, I finally got my first camera gig this weekend !! Yay! Nothing too special, I'll be shooting b-roll against a Varicam - lots of blue-screen work

*wipes tear from eye*

man watching that griffith clip of yours posted on dvinfo made me she a tear missing LA so much.

that shot of the firetrucks look sparticularly awesome.

Funny not so funny thing about those firetrucks depending on your perspective, the apartment adjacent to mine caught on fire really bad, the day I went out to Griffith park, I should have stayed in and covered the fire because KTLA would have paid me 150 for the footage - sucks for my neighbors though

Awesome stuff.

Normally I watch HVX footage with the sound off, because I'm pretty much just judging images... your stuff, however, compels me to fire up the speakers and chill out.

Thanks!

Can't get enough of that slowmotion :)
And that Bob-video looked like it was written by Charlie Kaufman

Richard. They put on one of the best concerts I have EVER EVER seen and I've been to hundreds of shows . They were just so damn entertaining... so on point... so just friggin the best. So Gene and Dean ween. My partying with them was crazy too. I got really drunk and floated up nice and high with them.. that was an incredible experience.

It is tough though that they are out there doing the hardcore drug scene. I did also hear that they lost their record deal after their last album. They haven't been back here in 4 years or so... I would see them again in a heartbeat and pay a couple of hundred bucks... The damn ending to the show alone is worth it when all the chicks get up on stage and get naked...

I'll see if I can put together some of the footage. The guy I worked for has a TV show here in town shooting national and local bands. If I can get the mini DV tapes back from him.. I'll send you a video. Will be a single camera but should be something great for a ween fan... and you also have been so gracious with your footage. Give me a little bit to contact him and I'll see what I can do...

Also been a while for me so I'll get a copy. I also think that mexican type ballad about killing my brother on Tuesday was possibly the coolest thing I've seen in concert in 10 years. It gave me chills and was just so unbelievable...

Man... so happy there are still weeners out there. This band was a staple of college life for me. I wore there stuff out... I still love voodoo lady, spinal meningitis... Big Jilm... and all that freaky ****..

Maybe the only band ever to feature a SIMON SAYS solo on a record?

Richard,
All the footage I've seen from you has made me want this camera more and more. Very sharp and the color rendition is awesome. Even the most random things become very interesting when edited by you. Keep up the great work. Keep shooting these little tests and I'll keep watching them.

Richard,

I think your stuff is fantastic! I hope you get lots of work with your HVX.

I have just recently found myself in a position to be able to buy an HVX (my friend just sold his DVX) and have been really concerned lately about all the noise issue posts. However, looking at your work (and others) I couldn't help but wonder if people are being a little hypersensitive. I'm a complete novice, barely 10 hours on the DVX, but I love much of what I see being produced on the HVX. Except in a few cases, the noise doesn't bother me at all (with your stuff you seem to even use noise for effect, as with the bottle close ups). What strikes me as a novice, but avid film lover/watcher, is the beauty of the images.

I know 99% of the mix is talent, not the camera, but keep posting! Not only does it ease my worries about noise, but I really enjoy watching your clips.

Cheers.
