Seagate hard drive

Gn32

So i just got a seagate 500 gb ext hd to use between a pc laptop and my
mac pro, after reading some of the insructions with the hd it says they dont recommend sharing files between them and they say

" Caution. Do not leave your drive in its pre-formatted FAT32, single partittion condition if you intend to transfer data between Mac and Windows systems. Doing so will result in data loss. "

Do i just need to partittion the drive or re-formatt to something else??

I'm not sure why Seagate would say that. It might be because some older PCs could not handle drives larger than 137GB because they are limited to 48-bit Logical Block Addressing.

If you have a PC that's fairly new (something that supports SATA drives, for instance), you won't run into that.

FAT32 is limited to 2TB volumes, with individual files limited to 4GB. The HVX never creates files larger than that since it uses FAT32 for the P2 media, so you shouldn't run into problems with that.

One final note: if you repartition, you will also have to reformat.
