C300: SDI SDI Rec Command

What I'd like to do: Jam sync the time codes between two c300s and utilize the SDI Record Command feature.

I can't seem to get the SDI rec command feature to work. I've gotten the timecodes synced, but the b-cam won't respond to the a-cam's trigger. Can anyone explain exactly which settings I should be using and which ports should be linked together? The manual isn't really helpful with this, as far as I can tell.

Also, once the time code is synced, do I have to keep the cable attached? Will they drift if I remove the cable?

Thanks for the help!

The SDI Record command feature is not meant to trigger two cameras at a time, it's meant to trigger an external video recorder. You will not be able to trigger recording on Camera B from Camera A. Just sync the time codes, then manually trigger them when necessary.

Once time code is synced, you do not need to keep the cables attached. However, be aware that when the camera power cycles (turn off, then back on) there may be some drift. It's best to TC sync at least every time the camera power cycles, and good practice to confirm sync any chance you get if it's important for post-production.

Ah, ok. Thanks for explaining that, Brian. I was able to get it to trigger an external recorder but couldn't figure out why the other cam wasn't triggering. Maybe I'll bug Canon to include the feature in the future. :)

Thanks for answering the Timecode question too. That's pretty much what I thought.

Happy shooting!
