SDHC cards will not format in Mac with disc utility after formatting by T2i

Quick question: How can I reformat SDHC cards in a Mac Pro using the disc utility app?

Some of the cards will not format on Mac Pro after they have been formatted in the T2i. I get the message: "EOS Digital cannot be modified."

Photos and .mov files can be copied over from the card to the Mac, but nothing can be copied onto the card from the Mac and the disc utility app cannot make any change in the card. It's as if the card is read-only after it is formatted by the T2i. The lock switch on the card is not in the locked position, so I don't think that is the problem.

In Mac disc utility, the cards register as MSDOS (FAT) format, which I think is FAT-32, but it is grayed out and cannot be erased or partitioned.

I would like to use the cards occasionally to store and transfer files on my Mac. Can these cards only be used in the T2i once they are formatted there?

And strangely, some cards after formatting by the T2i will allow copying and deleting of files on the Mac, while other cards, after formatting in the T2i will not.

Any advice much appreciated,
