For the GH1 user reference , So we can know which card we can buy and use on which best setting ; Thanks a lot !:laugh::laugh:

I bought 2 Patriot Class 10 16gb SDHC cards. I have used them on my friends GH1 (Just ordered mine last week and am still waiting on its arrival).

He was using the "C" settings and we did not have problems during the short testwe did. I wouldn't be able to really talk about the hack settings since I don't have my GH1 yet.

ok I just bought an 8gb SANDISK CLASS 10 30mb/s card. I used these settings http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=215526 from this thread.

Everything is fine all day shooting except when I put the camera on a tripod in my backyard in AVCHD mode (I have 24p native checked also), and I aimed it at some trees, grass, foliage, a detailed scene. In as little as 3 seconds I have card read error. Then next time it took about 40-50 seconds but I can consistently give it card read error with that 'static shot' of just looking at very detailed trees/grass landscape. Tomorrow will try to lower the settings a little perhaps.
Also have had card read error just fast forwarding through a movie I took inside the camera.

a sandisk ultra 15mb/s probably cant support even the lowest of the hacked setting, huh? looking to buy a sandisk extreme 30mb/s off a friend :)

Only if the GH1 supports UHS devices which i don't think it does. But i could be wrong, nothing in the manual about support for UHS.

From the article you posted ""UHS-I cards will be compatible with existing devices but can only make use of their extra speed capabilities when used with a UHS-I reader or cameras.

Then we need to get one to Vitality huh? hehe

I'm having the exact same problem. A lot of people re telling me not to shoot static scenes, or they don't believe me... but sometimes you need a static shot and I know it does happen consistently. I'll keep my eye open for a fix... if you hear anything let me know :)

by the way I shot all day yesterday and today, family setting just shooting for 4th of July stuff with the settings I posted above and I did not get a single error anywhere with my 8gb sandisk class 10 30mb/s. The only error I ever got so far in the past 2-3 days is just that one I described above where I shot a straight static very detailed foliage/grass/trees scene on a tripod

What are your settings?

What are your settings?

Seems that people with 24p ticked are getting most of the errors. Do you have agressive bitrate settings?

To be honest, this is why I haven't tried to hack my GH1. I shoot mainly landscape GV's which would be lots and lots of locked-off shots with plenty of detail in them. I couldn't be bothered with camera crashes every few shots. I might try this hack out next week (after I have 2 "live event" shoots out of the way) but don't really want super high bitrates, just enough to get me pretty clean 1080p25 material at around 25/30mbps. I have 2 x 8Gb Class 6 cards (Transcend and Kingston) and don't want to have to buy anything faster if I can avoid it.

When the camera freezes on these high bitrate clips, can you still get access to the part of the clip up to the freeze? or do you loose the full clip? Also does it harm any clips already captured to the card, or are those OK?

from the few freezes I've gotten (that includes a couple PRE hack, because apparently the crappy class 2 card cannot handle even stock gh1 footage lol) to my knowledge the video your'e shooting that causes the freeze is lost forever, however the other videos on the card are unharmed.
So no, to my knowledge the video is not salvageable not even the parts that were recorded BEFORE the card actually errored out

In my experience (and it seems others too) the static freeze issue is connected to the native 24/25p option not to the bitrate. People have tried keeping the default bitrate but still get the error if they tick the native option. So the simple solution is not to tick it. Then you can get all the benefits of increased bitrate and not worry about shooting statics.

At least that's what I've found.

Just bought
Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6

try on FHD 32mbps 24P AVCHD with 14-45 kit lens , more then 7 min no issue ;

I'm new to the hacked GH1 (just hacked mine)... but I bought 2 Panasonic Gold 8gb Class 10 cards from J&R Music World for $30/each.

From my own research I think this is probably the best (bang for the buck) value for a GH13.

So far I'm using the latest PTool 3.37d with the preset "C" settings... but I also checked native 24p. It's recording video and playing back in-cam, but it's very early for me to report any real testing results. My PC isn't up to the task of working with this footage. I've got a mini-HDMI to HDMI due here tomorrow and I'm hoping to verify some initial performance results on a 60" 1080p via cam playback.

My cam is "Made in China" (versus Japan), bought from B&H... and I'm using the kit lens 14-140 w/ OIS on.

I just got my GH1 yesterday, and had no crashes with the "B" settings, so I decided to push it to the "C" settings tonight and have been pleasantly surprised that I haven't been able to get an error yet--and I'm only using a Panasonic Gold 16GB Class 6 card.

I just shot the "star chart" from http://www.bealecorner.org/red/test-patterns/star-chart-bars-full-600dpi.png directly off my laptop display and had a 44.3 Mbps bit rate according to Media Info. Granted, I haven't tried any shots more than about a minute and a half--so maybe it would crash if I kept it running?
