Rode ntg-2 mic noise w/ xha1

So, I have my NTG-2 mic setup with my XH-A1 and i have the capture volume on fairly lol, probably around2 28% of max (using those ch1 and ch2 dials). the problem is that then my audio is coming in too quiet and adding gain in post simply amplifies the small bit of noise. so in the end if i record loud or record quiet and add gain, obviously i'll still have the same level of noise.

i'm using 48v phantom boost on my xlr mic. any ideas from anyone on reducing noise?

thanks so much

My Rode NTG-1 and Audio Technica AT 835B need to be cranked on the A1 (the Rode is hotter). It does not sound bad, just needs to be cranked more than I remember on the DVX.

There is a switch for mic gain or sensitivity in the audio menu. Could try different mic cables or battery instead of power from the A1.

yup i'm using a shockmount. it's not vibrations i'm picking up, it's a light static noise.

also, thanks for the tip fatdaddy

update:

i don't have any mic gain on in my menu

How did you get rid of the noise... Ive encountered the same thing. I use a Rode SM5 mount with the NTG-2, messed with all the settings on the camera and mic, and i still pick up this hissing/humming noise... what did you do to get rid of it????

Are you guys getting noise in the headphones, or in the actual recording, or both? If the headphone volume is too high I hear a hiss, but this is not recorded to tape. I use an NTG-2, and if I keep my levels right around -12db I get very clean audio.

This hissing is picked up through the headphones as well as being recorded. Dont know what else to try...

Sorry to bring up this old post too, but this is the problem I'm having. Does anyone have an answer to get clean audio? The hiss is killing my production value.
