SD with the XH A1

Hopefully a simple question. I like the versatility of being able to go back and fourth between SD, and HD, and am about to make a purchasing decision. My question is: If I record in SD with the XH A1 can I playback the video in a standard DV deck to my NLE? Or do I need to update my downstream gear?
I don't want to use the XH A1 as a deck and realize if I shoot HD 1080 I'll need to purchase the HV-10, or get a Firestore.
So can I get away with using my current SD gear for playback initially with the A1?

I think that Canon's 24f will only play out on canon gear, so regardless of whether its sd or hdv, if you shoot in 24f you will need an hv10.

That's my fear. So before I drop a dime on the A1 I just wanted to make sure.
My assumption is that the A1 SD will play out, but we all know what happens when you ass(u)me! What motivated the question was their specs.
SD (4:3): 1080 x 1080; Approx. 1.17 Megapixels.
To further this question will I need the HV-10, or Firestore, to play out the 16:9 SD?? Or will it just play out on a standard DV deck.
SD (16:9): 1440 x 1080; Approx. 1.56 Megapixels
Thanks folks.

If this spec is real, it must be referring to the sensor only, and the camera will be downconverting to 720x480 (or 720x576) before recording to tape. Otherwise it wouldn't be DV format. Widescreen DV is the same resolution as 4:3 so shouldn't affect capture compatibility either.
