SD to tape - has anyone even tested this?

I know it' sacrilegious, but some of us on the pre-order list may have to buy a bare cam or bare cam with 1 4G and/or rent P2 cards. We may need to shoot SD to tape and I would love to see comparison to see:

(1) How much more res does it give with 16:9 CCD's vs. squeeze mode give?
(2) How is the sensitivity, noise and latitude vs. the A & B
(3) How well does it match the A & B (you would assume really well)
(4) Does the better glass give less barrel distortion in full wide?

Anyone with a HVX and DVX A or B model who could do some test and report would be much appreciated...

I think you can get by just fine even with 1 card if you're not shooting event work. Don't forget there's always the laptop solution for unlimited recording as well.

Can't answer your four questions as the only one who probably has both an HVX and DVX at this point is Barry, and he's got more than his hands full. You're probably going to have to wait 2-3 weeks at the least to start getting reports from a wider base of owners.

It's a good question stephenvv and one that will probably be explored more as cameras start to land in people's hands.

I know HD gives more resolution than SD and DVCPro 50 gives better color space, but it will be interesting to see what SD 16x9 will do on the HVX, because there is something simple and alluring about the look of the DVX.

I'll try to make time to shoot some side-by-side with the same settings and post the files split-screened and then you guys can decide.
