Hi Can anybody out there please help !!
I've just shot an advertisment for a local competition in SD 50i (Pal) to P2 cards for what I though was convienience sake. (The ad is a fly on the wall type situation in which I tried to mimic events being shot on a mobile phone, hence the SD) My problem is I cant seem to convert the files using Connect HD for Vegas (6). I even bought Raylight but cant import them into Vegas, The avi's are converted ok, but the Grey pattern of squares are still on the screen. I've contacted Marcus at Raylight and he's working on it. But the deadline is Thursday and I need to get it edited and add sound by tomorrow. I still have the footage on my P2 cards but can't dub it to tape, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Is their another way I can ingest the footage directly from the cards into Vegas 6 ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Barry ! the footage is DV 50i. I have recorded it to cards ? Will Vegas recognise it like any DV device ? I though because the files were MXF they would have to be converted ?? Going to check it out now thanks for the info Barry !!

Hi Barry !
Tried this and no luck. The footage is capturing fine . The problem occurs when I try to play it in Vegas (6) the same pattern of grey squares comes up on screen. I've checked that its the release version of RayLight I'm using; and downloaded the Matrox codec. I've also reloaded all my footage; files and folders again. Its strange as other HD 720 25p MXF files all play fine; this only seems to happen with the SD footage I've captured. I'm in contact with Marcus at the moment so I'll keep you posted.

If you're capturing DV from the HVX, Raylight has nothing to do with it. Raylight doesn't even enter into the picture; just use the Vegas "capture" utility, play the files from the HVX and capture them in as regular DV .avi files.

I've tried this Barry, I'm still getting the grey pattern of squares on the footage. I cant figure out why this is happening ??

Well this is an "interesting" problem. The 50i DV-PAL data recorded by the HVX200 appears to be incompatible with
some DV decoders and with hardware/firewire playback on the PC. I was able to reproduce it here.

1. the 50i DV-PAL data plays back OK in
Windows Media Player with AVI or MXF files created by RayMaker.
or AVI in Premiere Pro preview window
or AVI in quicktime player

2. But the data looks scrambled when you play it back
from AVI or MXF file to firewire from Premiere
or anywhere in Vegas

The best workaround I have discovered so far
is to use RayMaker to make an AVI, then force Premiere to recompress every frame by setting the opacity to 99.9%.

No workaround appears possible in Vegas

Not sure if this problem is limited to 50i but it might be.
