SD Output

Does anyone know how to remove the vertical letterboxing in FCP?

I shot some stuff on p2 in SD using 4:3. When I bring the files into Final Cut it shows the 16X9 frame with the black bars on the sides to crop off the 4:3 field.

When I export it out to quicktime or using compressor it exports it with the letterboxing intact. Is there a setting to eliminate this? And is it in the import or the export part of the process?

I apologize in advance if this is a basic FCP question I should know the answer to.

Sounds to me like you didn't capture anamorphic. Control click on the file in the bin. Select item properties>format and make sure that anamorphic is checked.

It's P2. There's no capture involved. Just importing the mxf files.

I don't see anything like anamorphic as an option in the clip properties, just the frame size (720X480). If I export to (640X480) it'll just squeeze the whole frame in, black bars and all.
