SD cards to buy.

Hey guys. I just got my 60D at Samy's Camera in LA (anyone who's looking, they are having a really cool father's day sale that ended up saving me about $200 off the B&H prices for the same stuff).

While checking out, I asked them to throw in a 16 gig SD card and they ended up giving me a Sandisk Extreme 30 MB/s 200x card for $50. It seems like a nice card but after I wondered if I really need the high speed cards to shoot with the DSLR or if I could have just managed with a regular 16 gig card and saved $20. Thoughts?

you can use most sd cards which have at least class 6. but be careful with what you choose: many class 10 cards don't provide the speed they claim to do! It's a marketing trick and you end up not being able to shoot 720p high speed footage since the card is too slow!
If you want a cheaper card try out the
PNY Professional Series Hi-Speed 16GB
i heard good things about this card! I myself use Patriot cards which are okay but sometimes give me the buffer indication!

I've used every card you can imagine , use Transcend class 10 cards and you wont be sorry. plus they are very affordable

I have a vast amount of experience with both PNY and Transcend cards. Both will give you the buffer indicator once in a while. Recently I had the Transcend card completely shut off on me and it would not let me record until I captured and formatted the card. HUGE problem since we were on a paid shoot. Luckily we had more cards and an extra camera.

I have recently been using the 16GB PNY Class 10's mentioned and they have been good to me and have only shown the buffer bars a few times, but has never failed or dropped frames. Although they have been good, you do get what you pay for on lower end cards, honestly. I am now spending the extra money and buying Scandisk and the like. I would personally go with the fastest card you can afford. Depending on your style of shooting, you might be able to purchase quality 4-8GB cards and just capture right after.

If you are shooting 1080p/24p, you will get 12 minutes of video per every 3 GB. Just in case you didn't already know!

Hope this helps.
