SD Card will not Read! Please help!!

Hi,
I was on a shoot today (a paying gig that cannot be reshot). I was shooting onto a Transcend 32GB class 6 SDHC card. At a certain point (I believe once the card was totally full) the camera said that the card could not be read and to either reformat it to put in a new card. I luckily had another card, and was hoping this one would be ok when I put it in my computer. But, no! The card will not read in the camera or computer. I had some RescuePro software from a Sandisk card I have and have run that. It was able to salvage a few shots but not the most important ones. It reads that there are many shots but many of them (after saving them to my disk) will not show a thumbnail and will not open because they are an unrecognized format. Those files are still marked as mp4 and will be listed as having a certain file size (like 205mb) but will not have a duration and will not open. I am confused that my computer says it cannot recognize the card at all but the software can still recognize it (although I suppose that is what the software is for). This is very troubling and could lose me work and also my client will lose a client.
When the software recognizes the card, it says it is 32.2 GB, meaning it must be packed to the brim. Is this a common error when cards are filled all the way up?

Is there anything I can try to get the card to be read so I can try and capture the card as normal? PLEASSEEE HELLPPP

Not sure if this will work, but maybe you can try GetDataBack from Runtime Software. It helps more specifically if you have a situation where you have deleted files or deleted/missing partitions. Maybe others can chime in as well.

Thanks for the input Allantab! I am running a Mac, so I don't know if GetDataBack will work on my machine- I should have noted my OS. I'm trying to look into some other software solutions but it is scary to pay $100 with no idea if it would work. Thanks again! Any input or thoughts appreciated!

I paid $100 for Data Rescue 3 and it worked! If anyone has trouble definitely give it a try. Worked MUCH better than the Sandisk Rescue Pro (which only recovered about 10-20% of the data).
Regardless, I am seriously reconsidering my workflow for these sorts of shoots. My HVX was/is so reliable!!! I will add though that it was a blessing when thinking about this to know that my audio was recorded on my Zoom H4N, and I could salvage the interview even if I didn't have picture to go wit it. All seems good now in the end. I think this is the wakeup call I need regarding these cameras and reliability!.

Hey, shortnstout, could you explain the steps you used with Data Rescue to get your footage back? Will Data Rescue work on more than just hard drives, you can also use it on SDHC cards too? Do you basically just put the card in a card reader, put the reader in the Mac's USB port, and then tell Data Rescue that is the "drive" you want it to scan?

Thanks for any tips on using it,
jimbee

thats why i wudnt use those big cards....a couple 8 gbs and 16gbs is better than one 32gb. i dont like the idea of so much info on one card.

Glad it worked out for you.

exactly, never put all your eggs in one basket, a couple smaller sized cards would be a much better route as opposed to a single 32gig card

yeah i love my 7d but footage getting stuck on the cards is definitely the achilles heel,i refuse to go above 16gigs on a Cf,no matter the name brand.

And too, it's not a good idea to pack the card right to the brim. Leaving a buffer of at least 10% of the size of the card free will help eliminate that. Transcend cards work well for some, and are a nightmare for others, but I would guess it's how they are used.
