SD card time using t2i

Just brought the new t2i, great camera , but one question how much time should I be getting out of my card ? I have the Sandisk Extreme SDHC card 16gb. right now I'm only getting about a half-hour. what can I do to get more time out of the card.
 
The 550D records 1080 & 720 at 5.5MB/s.
VGA is recorded at 2.8MB/s.

So VGA will allow you to record for longer but obviously at a much lower resolution.
 
I'm getting this camera next week and the numbers above are what I've read elsewhere (in other words, around 48 minutes for a 16GB card).

Anyone have any idea why the OP is only getting around 30 minutes on a 16GB card? For people who own this camera, is this normal?

I own the camera and I get 48 minutes from my 16gb. My guess is the OP either is shooting an extremely active scene with motion all over the frame or they just don't understand that no matter how big your card is the camera still only displays "29:59" until you get below that time left on card.
