screengrab problem

I've been trying to post screengrabs from my latest short film and had difficulty with it: I shot it in 720 and when I try to email the photos or post them anywhere, they always seem to be resized to 4:3 aspect ratio comlete with aspect distortion (images squeezed and stretched). I've tried to fix this in Photoshop and the aspect looks fine, but when I export it as a JPEG file it resizes.

Any thoughts?

I've had the exact same thing....

Using FCP and exporting a freeze frame still image to desktop...

I open it up in either preview or photoshop and it converts to a 4:3 image....

I had captured it in 16X9 1080i...

I went into photoshop and changed the images size only the width, keeping the height the same size, but increasing the width to 1920...so that's 1920 by 1080...

This looks right but I don't know why it exports as a 4:3 image, would be interested myself if anyone knows why it does this?

Thanks

Yo.
I'm not sure exactly why it does that. Someone explained it to me once, but the wine is taking hold now. But i know when i do that, I just go into photoshop and make a new document and size is 1280x720.
That should work.

What your looking for in Photoshop is changing the Aspect Ratio... Select image its about half way down.

It exports out of fcp like that because the native file (for 720p) footage is actually 960x720 not 1280x720. So even though it looks fine in the fcp viewer, the exported still will actually be 960x720 (squished).
Correcting the aspect ratio in photoshop is what I usually do or if I'm feeling lazy I just use some screen grab software and capture the selection in the fcp viewer.

Why not just use command+shift+4 and get a screen cap using the Mac's built in screen cap function - it automatically creates a png file of what you want.

I wonder why it is that after reading heaps of posts, the original poster finally gives "enough details" so someone can Help him/her.

I Must be getting tired..
