Screen Grab from "Brain Storm" shot by Coffee

Here is a grab from the short we are working on "Brain Storm".

This is the first chance I had to work with Coffee and he was great.

Chris

p.s. We intended to shoot with the Anamorphic lense at 16 x 9. Somehow we ended up with letterbox mode turned on so it looks like we have our first Cinemascope picture. :)

Too kind Chris, thank you.

The grab simply looks great!!!! A perfect attic scene, dark but clean with no grain. I like it. Can't wait for people to see the entire short. You did a great job directing by the way and the shoot went very smooth thanks to your planning!

looks good.

coffee, any update on the other film you were workin on?

Hey thanks for asking my friend. Well long story short, I moved into my new home and still unpacking. I'm about 10% unpacked as far as the recording/editing studio goes so I'm in high hopes to be fully functional in two weeks so that I can finish editing. I wish I could get all of that stuff unpacked sooner but my kids and the wife wouldn't like that.... oh well..... lol. :cheesy:

They're even in the same order as they were in the other pic. Nice shot.
I'm glad you liked it.

In case anyone is curious, there is the slightest bit of color correction to darken the blacks and add a little red to the skin tones. Also, I used Sapphire to play with the lights a bit and change the overall highlights.

I don't want to be the only guy but this doesn't really do it for me. Please don't take offence at anything I say I hope you want some honest critique.

First I think adding the red was a bit of a mistake. Immediately it makes the whole picture take on an orangish hue which simply makes it look like you shot with unbalanced lights.

Second, it looks muddy, I don't know how to expound on it any past that, it just does.

Last, theres no separation. It looks like you played with the blacks to crush them a bit, which is cool, but it looks like you had no back light, so it ended up blending a lot of the colors togethor and nothing has any definition. It doesn't help that all your actors save the guy on the left are wearing dark colors. Case in point, the guy second from the left is just a floating head due to the lighting issues.

Anyway, man I hate to say anything negative, you can feel free to rip me a new one on my stuff, but I hope it helps some.

That's a jam packed shot of actors. Looks a bit dark to me, but that could be this crappy monitor I'm on. Great to see you came up with an idea for the competition Chris. Look forward to seeing the final outcome.

Where's your stuff?

Just kidding, it's all good, and I always appreciate honest feedback.

Oh I caught the other thing that was bugging me about this shot. Touching up the red and orange hues is (aside from looking like you shot with standard room lights) giving your image a warmer look. Since they're all huddled and look cold this seems to create the opposite effect.

You've actually got some great shadows in this pic, but they're hidden by the mud of the cc. I touched the image up a bit and got this, it may completely be against what you want but hopefully you can see what i'm talkin about :)

That's awesome and a great point. I should probably try and go a little blue and cold for this shot.

Thanks,

Chris

I like the shot overall, but what great advice from lucidz about going with the cooler colors... This forum rocks.
