Scratches on the lens

Whilst randomly test filming today, I noticed small flares on the screen when I pointed the camera at light.

I noticed on the lens that there were several really small scratches. I am unsure how they even got there in the first place, I've always got the hood and cap on.

Has anyone else experienced this? And how do I go about resolving this issue?

I'm unsure about resolving/repairing, which I'm sure someone will comment on...but once you have thius fixed I'd seriously think about getting a piece of glass on the front, whether it clear, diffusion, uv, or whatever....but having a $50 piece of glass be replaced is way better then having to worry about a repair.

You sure its not just dust? If you bring it in anywhere to people that deal with lens repair, they should be able to tell you exactly what is wrong with it... Lenses are tricky things, best to leave it to the pro's....

I'm going to get it checked out pretty soon, no chance I can shoot anything in this state.

Yeah I should have a piece of glass in front of it to protect it. I've just further examined it and there's so many little scratches, I don't remember noticing them after shoot so I don't know how they occured.

Thanks for that DM rider.

For now though, I need to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and how they went about resolving the issue, was it a hefty price etc.

And also something to prevent scratches for occuring again.

Get a good Tiffen clear or uv filter for when you are shooting in situations where dust is an issue.

As far as the scratches go, I'd either email Panasonic support, or bring the camera into a shop and have a professional look at it. I don't think there's much that you can do yourself at this point. Scratches on lenses are never easy to fix and should be handled by someone with the proper knowledge.

My guess is that some well intending person used a dry cloth to clean your lens. It doesn't take much pressure to get these scratches. That's one reason I usually use a wet cleaning solution.
And I won't tell you to get a $75 clear lens since everyone else covered that. :) But they are soooo right on the money.
If the scratches are as slight as you say, there are places that can do it. Google "repair scratches on camera lens" and you'll get a lot of info. Here is one I found:

I could be off on the way I clean a lens, so please anyone correct me if I'm wrong...I actually just picture wrapped a film today, and we had LOTS of dust AND fake blood....so I was annoying the crew by quite often running over to a light and cleaning things up:

1. blow off the lens and surrounding are until all dust is gone.
2. spray a lens cleaning tissue lightly and about 8 inches from with cleaning solution.
3. wave the tissue a bit so it isn't insanely wet.
4. wipe away any schmutz.
6. wipe with micro-fiber cloth
7. brush
8. blow off lens one last time

For anyone who also comes across the same issue; I took my camera to where I purchased it and it was a minor problem. They removed it with a microfiber cloth for lenses, LCDS, computer screens etc.
