Sci-fest - The Prizes and Rules

I don't think the workflow matters as much as the end results to fit within the competition rules. Kind of like camera work, etc ... doesn't matter what gear you use, it's the end result that matters (okay, in this case it DOES matter what camera you use if you want to be considered for awards).

yes.. for both the web deliverable and the DVD deliverable it must be an anamorphic frame. I dont care if you shoot 4:3 and crop it. or shoot anamorphic. If it was 10 films i wouldnt have a problem, batch doesnt work (well it didnt) because of the various formats and odd placed flags from different NLE's.

To make things easier though, the DVD's you send in will not be in native AVI format, you will send those in as MPEG 2s on a DVD.. so whatever you do, It will go on the disk without me touching them, i will just pull them off the disk one by one and drop them into the DVD authoring program.

Cool, sounds like a plan... so bottom line is this... I edit on Avid... so, I would edit in a 4:3 project and crop it to 16:9. Then I would take the finished film and put it into a 16:9 project? Am I thinking straight?

I don't know AVID, but why not just import your 4:3 clips into a 16x9 project? Unless you want a 4:3 version of your film, there's no reason to work with 4:3 other than the original footage ... from there, work within a 16x9 project/workflow.

Briceman, I use Avid too. Just finish your edit, then create a new video track, add a 16:9 mask, create another video track, add a resize filter and increase it vertically to 133. (Technically the 16:9 mark isn't necessary, but it helps you to visually judge what you're doing.) If you need help when you come to it post in the Avid section here. I hang out there a lot. :)

Should we be editing in a 30 frame/sec timeline or 24 frame/sec timeline?

And then what framerate should we output? I am under the impression that we are making these for the dvd so i would think edit and output to 29.xx frames

anyone know?

Wow, a play. Interesting!

My first shoot day is Thursday night! I am getting excited! We (me and my co-director) met with our Script Supervisor/1st AD on Saturday, and made final touches to the script. Now I just have to hope my props and tapes are delivered on time!

I thought we already had a "progress" thread. :cheesy:

Finished shooting. The rough cut is done. Now the FX work begins.

Yeah, we do already have a progress thread. Should update there, sorry. Congrats on finishing up the shooting and having a rough cut done!! Good luck with everything! I am really jazzed about getting some of mine shot real soon. I've also got some green screen work to do, and I'm no effects guy, so, I've got my plate full!

Six minutes start to finish. If you want to spend those on credits that's your choice. Some people are talking about a still-shot of credits at the end to not take away from their allotted running time.
