Sci-fest - The Prizes and Rules

Jarred how you tease us with those prizes and now Vegas + DVD ..I can only dream of winning these ..and I really need to step up from Studio 10 Plus .

I do not peronally own a DVX. But I do work at WAFF 48 NEWS in Huntsville, Alabama. Is it ok to use the DVX from our commercial dept. to shoot this film? It doesn't violate the rules, right?
 
Well, I'll ask the head of the commercial dept. tomorrow if it's ok to borrow it. I'm pretty sure they won't mind. I mean, I've been helping out the commercial dept. off and on for two years now. They owe me one.
 
Good for you ... but with a name like PixelMagic I'm leary of wishing you too much luck on a Sci Fi contest...

So I just spring for my copy of Vegas so I can stand a chance at winning something this time, and they go and offer a copy for free. There's a Catch-22 theme in here somewhere ...

Well I just bought the flowpod Varizoom dv sportster kit (second prize this time) lol, so yeah it's kind of bass akwards. -- though they did let me use take the credit from the VariZoom Rock DVX zoom controller I won in Zombie fest and apply that toward the purchase of the DV Sportser kit (VERY COOL OF THEM THANKS TOM) so its not quite such an odd loop as buying a prize offered in a contest in order to potentially win that prize -- but .... OK I just made something in my head hurt...
 
Yeah, it's funny ... a lot of these prizes awarded are actually needed/benefitial in helping you win that category! Or, for the person who wins best edit using FCP ... great job, but now you can do REAL work with Vegas! :grin:

Don't get me wrong ... I LOVE the prizes ... not a single one that's disappointing in the least.

So here's a Q ... can someone win MUTLIPLE categories, like the Oscars?

Good question and I don't have a clue as to the answer to it. I would have to assume that one film could win best picture and sweep the camera, editing, and sound categories though...
 
May not be as fun, but would be it fair for the film that truly did rock everyone else's world, but because only one prize could be awarded per film, then the 2nd rate films in all the others would earn prizes instead? If it's close, maybe, but it would stink to have one that CLEARLY stood above all the rest in a particular category, not get the prize just because they already one somewhere else.
 
The Sub prize catagory winners are determined by the mods, and the top three winners can probally win the top three, just like at the oscars. We will try and spread the love though.

Hey, whatever ya'll decide works. I think if one film simply rocks then there is nothing wrong with that project taking home all the bacon... mmmm bacon:grin:
