schleppin' productions

This I admit was the first time I checked this out. I did not get through reading many of the posts, but I watched the trailer and it looks interesting, like a world much different than my own has been captured. The colors were attractive and it seems that a good amount of dedication was put toward this.

Gotta admit this trailer annoyed the hell outta me the first few times I saw it. I said WTF quite a few times, but the re-cut is great. This is probably the only trailer I'm not screaming "why the bloody heck is this thing so long?" And it is mesmerizing. Sometime people who're doing something different aren't really appreciated, not only here, but in life. But I bet if this film gets any kind of distribution Vic will have to hide his penis from all the folks who'll try to hold his jock. My suggestion Vic is rename the film Corrada and give Liv two 9mm. (No slam on Adam, he's knows I like his work, I wrote "Action FIlmmaking" for goodness sakes, but I think you know what I mean).

Vic's dealing with doing something new, but doesn't exactly have the "slickness" down yet. I try to help him on that end and even I'm still learning and I've been doing Photoshop for more than ten years. The art for the posters and covers all have to be tight, and he's working on that. The movie has an audience, though he may have to find it or create it, (I say ravers will eat this for breakfast).

He's not always the greatest trailer cutter, but then neither am I nor many others who I've seen. But we're all growing at everything we're doing. With that said this is his best trailer. The images work well with the song, making me think he may want to consider music videos. I actually want to see this film and it's not like anything I would normally watch, which means he cut an excellent trailer. The trailer is also littered with hot chicks and weirdness so that helps. My only problems with it are the main character's inactivity and we never hear dialogue, but see lips moving. Yes it's too long, but it certainly keeps you interested. LOL. I think it's going to come out real hot once it finds an audience.

That was a fabulous review, Nate! It feels good to have made a movie reflecting my own sensibilities rather than what the "distributors" want to see or even what the audiences want to see. I have made plenty of movies in the past that fit those categories, but those films are essentially exploitation movies. THE RED QUEEN is different. I'm real proud to have made it even at the end of my career as an indie filmmaker. After all what are we supposed to do, celebrate mediocrity forever?

Thanks again, Nate~

Here is another view of the artwork:

The problem with the art is it just doesn't look professional. And it looks Photoshoped. Here's the new cover to my Blackrayne book, when we re-release it in November. The art isn't supposed to make you think in anyway about the process of how it was made, it's simply supposed to aid in making you want to buy the product. Also I notice the shape of your art, it should take up the whole page like a standard DVD. Like was mentioned before, you don't want this to look like a home movie. No matter what your packaging has to be tight. I say this after years of trying to get it right myself.

In this piece notice how we've placed the images. I shut off the filters because for this project they didn't look good. I let the photos remain realistic versus looking drawn. The cover is less cluttered and simply looks more professional.

This is a beautiful video sleeve.
BTW, my artwork above is for the DVD cover. It's from the CreateSpace template. It goes right over the DVD cover, with a hole in the middle and the outside is cut off by the circle of the DVD.

I just put it up to help promote my movie on Amazon.

Oh, this is the face? Ah, okay, that would account for the shape.

Not too bad. Mine was a cover for a book actually, although I may do a Blackrayne Movie.

Oh, I thought, that was a cover for a DVD. You would probably do it differently if it were a movie then.

I look at DVD covers in the stores and I notice that they are all different in so many ways.

The ones that attract me personally (to the extent of pulling them off the shelf and looking at them ... I think I've watched only about ten DVDs in my life), are the ones that have a clear and large image on the front.

It's usually the face of an actor I like or some figure in motion.

I don't like busy posters ... and unfortunately I end up designing busy posters myself ... because I don't take the time to come up with an "iconic image".

I like the concept of the iconic image and I even like an abstraction ... if it's powerful enough.

Graphic design is a field all its own. The great graphic designers are a breed apart. I don't think we can do everything ... although as an indie filmmaker I always try.LOL

My first cover for Blackrayne was busy. You can still see it on Amazon but I shut down the sales for it until November. I had to make some edits and I always wanted to change the cover, but didn't really know until this idea hit me. It actually says more about the story than the busy one did.

The poster is the most important tool of marketing a tool in the international markets, like Cannes and AFM. It's also important once a movie is out theatrical, plastered on the walls of theaters, and in newspapers. If a website has a lot of traffic (the great majority of personal web pages don't) a poster is important also.

But for us who are at this stage selling only DVDs, the DVD box sleeve is very important. Of course, if we manage to get the movie into the stores -- another big if.

But a great poster doesn't hurt anyways.LOL

A great poster can be placed on billboards with a Coming Soon notice on it. I wonder if that will create the buzz about a movie that will then sell on the Internet better.

http://www.felliniesque.com is the official RED QUEEN website. It is also the home page of all my felliniesque movies to come. This Thursday, I'm commencing production on FELLINI DIRECTS AGAIN! But I will continue to promote THE RED QUEEN.

Poster ideas are welcome. Please review the movie and make your suggestions or ask your questions. I'll be happy to share my experience as a felliniesque filmmaker.

this is a still from the movie with Jenessy in the front:

these are some of the other bands from Myspace that contributed songs for my movie. The music and songs in THE RED QUEEN are worth the price of admission alone.
