I'm looking at the new FCP7 and a new computer today. Wish me luck. Hope the ProRes will help me get to the next stage >> Blu-ray!

Audiences want to see controversial movies more than ever. This seems to be the only way to compete with the blockbusters. So I can understand the appeal of horror. At first I could not understand why so many kids are doing horror films.

I am glad that THE RED QUEEN is also controversial, but in the opposite direction :) Hopefully that will not matter and counter counter culture will find it entertaining. Personally I think THE RED QUEEN is a sleeper.

Check it out sometime > The RED QUEEN: rock-n-rollers dancing to trance music until dawn. Then a miracle happens! http://www.releasing.net/red_queen_on_amazon.html

THE RED QUEEN would have been a great festival film, but not in today's world; the festivals are now catering to the genre movies. With thousands of festivals running movies that would never see the light of a projector otherwise, indie filmmakers cannot make money anymore; filmmaking is now just a tool for self promotion.

So indie filmmakers should keep budgets low until the audiences are finally sick of genre films, then we can start making decent movies again.

But meanwhile a movie like THE RED QUEEN has a chance to break through. Check it out on Amazon. Search for THE RED QUEEN, Vic Alexander, or just click on the following link: http://www.amazon.com/RED-QUEEN-Liv-Alexander/dp/B002NKMCYM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1252531623&sr=1-1

One of the big lessons of THE RED QUEEN is that as an indie filmmaker you must never get into the habit of thinking that you should hone your skills and wait for the money to show up; you should be shooting movies all the time, especially if you know how, for example, you have an education in film or you worked on many films and know the essentials of filmmaking.

Because if you're always shooting movies, you'll find out someday that you have all the elements to put together some great movie projects; it's like a writer keeping a journal. This is how I made THE RED QUEEN. Check it out: http://www.felliniesque.com

The RED QUEEN is the best felliniesque musical ever made about rock-n-roll songs and dance. The RED QUEEN DVD is on Amazon Buy it Now! http://www.amazon.com/RED-QUEEN-Liv-Alexander/dp/B002NKMCYM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1252531623&sr=1-1

If you want people to get into Felliniesque, it's got to be tight. I think you should rework that cover and lower the price for a single DVD...(Yikes! For $24 I'm selling a 2 Disc set). Think "contemporary fantasy epic". Drop someone $50 on Craigslist and have them do you up right. That Red Queen is an attention grabber. (She always looks so weird in the trailers). I like her pose on the cover though.

Have you looked at ClipWrap? I think it may be of interest to you.

Thanks for the feedback, Nate. As always you see things others don't.... I like that you come out and say it; it's very valuable info.

Yes, the artwork can be better.

And I like the "contemporary ... epic" but I don't think it's a fantasy. In fact, everything in the movie is real ... including the fantasy.LOL

How to get people "into felliniesque"? hmmmm....

The cover can just be symbolic of what happens in the film. I'd keep the Red Queen on it probably. You did take photos on the set right. I mean you have actual photos of her in that outfit? But I still don't know what this film is about. I get the overall plot, (no idea how it all connects), but the cover should represent it. There's a lot of people that could whip something together for your on the cheap.

You really have to sit down and give thought to the cover. Good packaging is very important, that's why I changed the cover of "Action Filmmaking". When people are seeing it online, they have to choose between my book and several bigger books. Most of the people who see my book buy it (56% actually broken down between mine and two others). I'm making more sales now. My old cover was cool, but this one is simply more professional and I think filmmakers like to see the representations I have on the cover.

I like the idea of a symbolic poster for the Red Queen. I think I'll send some time sketching ideas for it. Thanks for the tip.

The movie came together organically. I did not use a script. I'd given the script to a few of my actors, but not the whole script. I took out a few pages here and there.

The movie came together from events I shot with the idea of the movie in the back of my head. I created it as I went. It took me two years.

When I started editing the movie, I simply strung along the sequences and watched the movie. It was like two hours of events that had nothing to do with each other.

Then one day quite miraculously I threw out a lot of sequences and tightened the movie. When I watched it a few hours later, it blew me away; I knew I had inadvertently created something.

The reason I keep saying it was miraculous is because it was a movie with a lot of partial nudity and craziness. But I had in mind that the battle was between the Red Queen and Demonis; good versus evil. And so I wanted to end with everyone choosing good. So on the first day of the shoot, I decided suddenly on inspiration of the Holy Spirit to take with me the lyrics of Amazing Grace. I didn't give the actors the lyrics. I gave it to them at the last minute.

So the first thing I did was have the actors dressed as clowns and in other costumes come down the stairway of a nightclub, and then I made gave them the lyrics of Amazing Grace and asked them to sing it. And they sang it. Now I had the beginning and the end of the movie. I did not care that they sang out of key or didn't know what they were saying. I wanted the hymn Amazing Grace to do the work itself upon them, and it did.

Well, that was the first miracle of the movie. The last miracle was when the Morning Star appeared in the sky at the dawn of the day that all the kids were literally dancing around the image of Satan -- this was the event that I was invited to by some of my actors. I had no clue what it was going to be like.

Nate, this is the most amazing movie I have ever seen and it's the best movie I ever made, and I can't take credit for it entirely. It's so good that it blows people away, especially in Hollywood. Nobody wants to play it in their festivals. It will kill them! LOL I love it.

It is, Nate. It's wild and crazy and groovy all rolled together, you know what I mean? The odds of everything coming together like that were a billion in one. So now I have to come up with a poster that shows it all in one pictures ... or abstraction. I worked on something for hours but it's no where near what it has to be.

I need something wild.

I asked Paulus how much he would charge. Thanks for the suggestion. I actually remembered him from a previous thread over a year ago.

Cool. I think it's a good move. And you know how to turn the poster into a cover right?

I use the template CreateSpace.com provides. I create the artwork inside the template at 300 dpi and then export it as a jpeg. Then I convert the jpeg into a PDF file.

I like the CreateSpace interface for publishing books too -- it's just a great service -- the only one that has panned out for me; I've tried quite a few.

Aramaic Bible @ Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Disciples-New...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251035849&sr=1-1

When the Morning Star appears in the horizon, the actress speaks in Aramaic. It was totally unscripted. Check out this new translation of the New Testament from the language Jesus spoke.

THE RED QUEEN is a felliniesque movie that presents dreams and reality in the same vision of life as it happens. It is the strangest reality you'll ever see in movies. It was a miracle capturing it all.

The RED QUEEN DVD is now on Amazon. THE RED QUEEN is a very creative rock-n-roll musical. It is a surreal vision of the American Underground surfacing in style, song and dance. It is shocking, provocative and weirdly beautiful. This is a must have DVD for the Evolutionary theorists.
