Scene Setting Options

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could explain what the different colour options under scene file do, I've figured out that master pedestal plays with the blacks and color temperature changes it from reddish to blueish; but what about the other things?

Thanks,

If your footage looks grainy (due to lack of ambient light), try add some light. Or you can access the camera menu by increasing the detail coring to remove graininess & to decrease the detail level. This should reduce grainy footage, but images wouldn't look as sharp. The matrix setting, Cine-like D is the most noisiest setting.

The camera can pre-process the image coming from the sensors in three ways. It can artificially blur or sharpen the image, it can change the brightness and contrast (gamma) of the image, and it can subtly change the color of the image. Each of the settings changes the way that one or more of these characteristics is handled. Some of the settings effect other settings or depend on other settings. There is really too much detail to go into to do a good job of explaining them here.

What's really amazing is that the pre-processing is working on the raw image before it gets compressed. So they have the full color space available and the full image detail available. Using the settings you can get high quality looks that are really difficult to get in post after the image has been compressed and written to tape.

Barry's DVX book is the best reference for understanding how the settings work, how much influence they have on the image, and how they interact with one another. Because the HVX has similar scene file settings, Barry's HVX book is also a great reference for understanding the scene file settings even for the DVX.
