HPX250: Scene Files for the HPX250 - Sort of a how-to

Since Panasonic hasn't uploaded any scene files for the HPX250, nor have I seen anything online, I decided to try and modify the files for the HPX300. I figured it should be pretty easy since the '250 and '300 share the same chipset.

First I downloaded the HPX300 scene files I wanted from the Panasonic P2 site. (link below) After opening the scene file in TextEdit I looked at them and noticed that the file format is not that different than the scene files for the '250. I chose the DIGINEG, FADED and CRUSHED scenes, just because they looked like something I would use.

First I inserted the SD card into my MacBook and opened both the '250 and '300 scene files side by side on my desktop, the '250 has a few extra lines such as "SYNC SCAN TYPE" and "DRS on/off" I didn't really care about those too much since they are easily accessed from the camera. Next it's just as simple of copying over the individual adjustments from the '300 file to the '250 file. Make sure you only change the values, and not copy and paste the whole line. Also do not delete any lines, or try to load the HPX300 file back into your HPX250, It will not work.

After saving the file back to the SD card, I inserted the card into the camera and loaded the scene file I just created. It worked :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Granted it's probably not an exact match as the HPX300 scenes but it looks pretty damn close. And it took less than 5 minutes from start to finish.

Maybe we can start a scene file thread so people can share their custom files?

Since the HVX Hack is not needed anymore I dont think there is much to hack here, we got pretty much all tweakable settings available now, correct me if I´m wrong.
I would be more interested in exchanging settings for the cine-like flat look and for the PAL TV look Gammas and settings. I need those two basically. Right now I use: Cinelike D
Detail=0
V Detail=0
Detail Coring=0
All others =0
Master Ped =20
DRS OFF
Gamma Cinelike D
Knee= high
Matrix = Cinelike
Skin= Off
V Detail Freq= Thin

Davoosie,
I have not used an SD card to store scene files yet, so I need to ask a basic question. When you say that you put the "250 and 300 scene files side by side on my desktop, the '250 has a few extra lines . . .", does that happen with the 250's card because you have formatted it in the camera? And when you format it, all of the scene file data fields are there from the formatting process?

I picked out about six different scene files from the Panasonic site you gave, so I want to be able to access them quickly. The SD card is clearly the way to go.
Thanks.

There is a sticky about this very subject on the HPX300 forum which already covers all of the questions raised. I downloaded the scene files from Panny that i liked and simply logged on the camera and entered the settings on the cam e.g.:
scene file 1 for me is BBC Video, scene file 2 is Digineg, 3 is Vivid etc. TBH there is very little we can actually change in the scene file so its quite easy to set a completely differant look per turn of the scene file wheel :)

I have backed it up to the sd card on the cam only as a precaution as i still have the files from panny sitting on my computer to look up if needed.

It can be a little confusing as the Panny files say Vivid is a single file but will actually occupy all the scene file setting on the camera wheel. ie Vivid will be on wheel 1-6 with only shutter speed changes on every turn.
I didnt want that so i set my own files by hand. You can of course save multiple files on the card, each card "file" will actually hold 6 looks if that makes sense.

cheers Andy

I managed to copy the settings from the HPX 300 and did some tests today. Also did some skew and jello tests running in the forest and must say it behaves well! CINEG-DIGNEG and FADED looked pretty nice. I am upping Master PED quite a bit too...
