Scene File Settings - "TANG"

7. In-camera squeeze does not give you the best 16:9 up-rez.

Oh, man, I have to take issue with this. Everything I have seen tells me that the SQUEEZE crop-and-zoom happens in-camera prior to all other processing. If you do it in post, you're uprezzing an image that has had its color subsampled and gone through DV compression, only to then have to put it back through more compression to get to a delivery format (DVD). I haven't seen any post uprez that comes close to SQUEEZE for quality.

Ah, way off topic here...

Indeed. Apparently, there remains some confusion.

As listed above, this happens to be "Panasonic -> DVX100 -> Technical -> Scene File Settings - 'TANG'".

Squeeze. Letterbox. Whatever works for you.

Any other thoughts or issues with this scene file before this thing gets buried?

I'm not sure how to use your scene file settings..

i'm doing it exactly the same, but nothing changes =/
can you help me out?

To add, I find that it works best to white balance outdoors when using fevers presets.

I initally tried under house lights and it didn't work as well.

I'm not suggesting that TANG even remotely approaches this look from "Fracture". It's just that you don't see orange tints all that much. It's always nice to grab scenes that are somewhat in the ballpark. Just chalk this one up to somewhat-orange-inspired.

This scene actually didn't make the final cut of the film. Truth be told, many things didn't make the final cut of this film. Believable plot.... real characters..... compelling storyline.... I digress.

The D.I. {Digital Intermediate} was done at EFILM (http://www.efilm.com/home.php).

Now - if they'd only spent as much time on the script. Hmmmm.....

The motivation for this tint is L.A. dawn. He leaves for work but the neighbor's car bumper blocks the door. Downtown L.A. is in the distance.
