Scarlet May update! Special for 5D users

How do I defend it?

1st - I really do think its funny and

2nd - it does have a purpose - Red really is ridiculous with their "announcement about announcements" and how they pull people by the nose and constantly set unrealistic release dates. If it wasn't for those damn Scarlet release dates I would have got my 5D ONE YEAR AGO.

Originally they said it will be released in May 10? or Nov 09? I don't even remember already because it was so long time ago when they first "announced" it, in November 2008.

shi*... this just makes me angry all over again.

So yes, this is constructive criticism thru humor, and the reason I'm doing it HERE is because over there its a dictatorship and not only that the post would have been deleted, I would have been banned from the site.

I'm not sure if you follow Red but there was this "big" announcement in October I think, which went something like "we are still working on the system" and nothing more (for Scarlet). People who are waiting for a release date, making plans, saving money.... its just bu$hit... it was really unprofessional and simply childish.

And what about announcing a FF Scarlet and now not saying a word about it (canceled, not canceled...?)

And lets not forget - what about the "mid" may announcement? Now Jim is gone due to health reasons... I bet there will be no announcement at all until he is a back, and I bet its not major, and I bet whatever they announce won't be followed. People tend to learn from the past.

Mike, you have nobody to blame but yourself. You could have bought a 5D a year ago. You didn't. Not because anyone else did or didn't do anything, but because you chose not to.

I've said it a million times, I'll say it again -- never buy any electronics item until you NEED it. And when you need it, get the best that's available and move on with your life.

Obviously you didn't need anything, right? Or you would have bought something by now.

Why don't you just do what everyone else does -- ignore the hype, ignore the announcements, ignore everything about it, and go about your business. If and when they release a product, THEN pay attention to it. Until then, it's all just wasted time and frustration on your part.

As far as "dictatorship" and "getting banned"; keep ragging on Red or RedUser and you'll find out that yes, this site is run by the same people, and we don't take kindly to disparaging of our sister site.

Who cares? Right now there is NO scarlet, whether 2/3", S35, FF, anything. So why worry about it? Go with what's on the market now. If something better comes along (whether a Scarlet or anything from any other manufacturer) then sell what you currently have and buy the newest -- IF it's actually better for your purpose. If it isn't better for your purpose, then ignore it.

Yes, I know this now. I didn't have experience with such behavior from a company. I had it from my mother when I was 6 years old, but not since then. Live and learn....
 
And BTW - if criticism wasn't banned from RedUser, maybe they wouldn't do this over and over and over again, like now we have "mid" May announcement and mid May has come and gone. Do you at least agree with this?

Doesn't matter. Any rumors (from Red or otherwise) are just noise that cause more harm than good. So ignore 'em. Red has shown, so far, that their announcements aren't anything to get too invested in. They announce stuff, then they announce that their announced stuff has changed, then they announce that they've changed the changes... so why chase after a constantly moving target? They announced 4K displays, 4K projectors, 4K red-ray disc players, Scarlets, Monstro 645 sensors... it's absolutely nothing you can buy.

If I were to advise you on Red, I'd say the ONLY thing you should pay attention to is this link:

If it's in the store, and says "now shipping", then look into it. If it's not in the store, ignore it. There's no point in constantly chasing after something whose "specs are subject to change, count on it" -- it just results in squandered neurons that could have been put to a more productive use.

Besides, Red has already said that they've learned their lesson, and they're going to be a lot more quiet about announcements and keep their development closer to their chest. If they really want to rock the world, their next Scarlet announcement should start with the words "now shipping".

Its all a misunderstanding™. They meant that there may be a mid Scarlet update... Not that there will be an update in mid-May.... stop bitching around, it's just a few misplaced words.
 
Reminds me of the Simpsons episode with the lawyers business card that's missing punctuation... something like

Yeah....that cam sounds like it will be nice. But I guarantee you...just before that cam is released....Canon will have their own announcement that will send your head flipping....like mine did a year ago with the GH-1 vs waiting vs 5Dll vs 7D.....
 
OH I'm gonna get the Canon as well, whatever that will be :)
I just have about 3 shoe boxes full of old FD lenses that would be a great match for a decent 4/3rd cam, I'm very excited!!!! Plus Panny just has a very nice image aesthetic to me, always has from the DVX to the HVX, regardless of resolution or whatever. I'm def looking forward to having a Panny back on the roster. My DVXs are sold and the HVX has been banished to the closet since last fall :(
