So I was wasting time over at scarlet user when I stumbled upon this video.

It seems there is a small hint that this dsmc and scarlet maybe be merging. If that is truly the case...full frame and interchangeable lenses?

Just a thought.

p.s that is a nice video which lays out the pros and cons of the RED and is more about the RED then Scarlet, but there is mention of it.

Sneaky sneaky. He mentions it at 19:01, by the way... it's a rather long interview (although very interesting).

The kids on the Scarlet forum are going to go NUTS just from that 10 second mention of Scarlet. Drives me CRAZY.

i wonder if the new target demographic has shifted from independent filmmakers to photo journalists and wedding videographers/photographers.

I highly doubt it. If it really is two cams becoming one, my guess is it'll be a "jack of all trades" and be targeted at all of the above. That's my dream cam. I definitely don't see Jim shifting anything away from it being a digital cinema camera. I can, on the other hand, see them adding to that cinema camera to encompass a broader audience.

I hate speculation though, and I try not to think about it too much or I can't sleep. Seriously.

I've successfully been able to keep Scarlet at the back of my mind, and that's where it stays until updates from Jim, or I can actually order one:)

Nice video, glad to see I'm not the only one that occasionally puts components on backwards. Even the ASC guys goof up sometimes.

Nice informative video.

So the 16 gig card only gets you 9 minutes worth of 16:9 footage? Someone please clarify this.

I like how it's XLR input for the mic, since this new RED camera is almost robotic, I would have thought attaching a shotgun mic would be tougher.

Nice lenses, and viewfinder.

Horrible tripod :)

the idea that the 2 products would actually be only be 1 has been a popular rumor since the DMSC was announced (myself included), but RED has continued to imply they will stay 2 products. We shall see.

yep, the 8 gig cards get about 4 minutes. Remember though that in the film world, film magazines hold 400 feet or 1000 feet, about 4 minutes and 10 minutes respectively. So this is what film crews expect and are used to.
