Scanning photos for Vegas

Hi,
I'm using Vegas Pro8 and want to create a photo compilation.
I want to put together a family album on video and wonder what scanning resolution and format is best for this purpose?

Many thanks,
Rob

Generally, I scan at double the resolution of the video format I'm using. For SD DV, I use 1440x960 at 150 dpi
That gives enough extra room to do a bit of panning or zooming within the picture using the pan/crop tool or other methods.
Also keeps the file size appropriate for Vegas.
Hope this helps

Yep, always png. I understand the new versions of Vegas will import Photoshop layers, but png retains the alpha channel also,and as Peabody said: Vegas likes png files.

Scanning resolution depends on how much you want to zoom in on part of an image. If you only want to cut/fade between static images, then you should scan the pics at the resolution closest to your project's resolution (DV, 1080, 720, etc.) as this will cut down on the aliasing that Vegas sometimes adds to overly large images. Scanning at a lower resolution will also minimize scanning time.

If flexibility is a priority, scan at a high resolution (600+ dpi) and export files at the desired resolution. While scanning will take longer, you won't have to rescan all of your images when you decide you want to change your methodology.

Finally, do a test run through your intended workflow before going to work on all of your photos to make sure there aren't any holes in your plan.
* Scan a few photos at the resolution you've decided on
* Export to PNG
* Import into Vegas
* Make a short slideshow, play with event pan/crop controls
* Export to your delivery format (DVD, etc.)
* Watch finished product to determine if any workflow tweaks are needed to improve quality
