I received an email from the lead detective in this case today. She corrected the name of the person arrested to Martin Bachert. Before you attack me for posting the wrong name, please note that Nick Lawson was the name that the detective had provided to me and which I posted only on her cue. (Also, I was contacted by a new member to this forum today who's known the arrestee for a few years but states, "I must admit, though, that I am having difficulty figuring out if he is Nick or Marty.")


The detective also saw that there were some postings that seemed to question the validity of this investigation and arrest. In consideration of that, and because she believes that there are still victims that have not come forward, she asked me to post her contact information:

Additionally, she sent me a link to a local TV news story on the arrest, which aired in St. Louis. I was not aware of this coverage until she brought it to my attention today. The detective featured in the news segment is Det. Ovca's supervisor, Lt. Bushery.

UPDATE 01/24/12 - SCAMMER ARRESTED

In addition to the information I had compiled and published (below), here is a list of names, email addresses, eBay IDs and Paypal info associated with Nick Lawson, provided to me by law enforcement. Please note that this list is not necessarily complete. He may have used other names and IDs, including variations of these, or names and IDs that I previously published but are not on this list.

(Note from Detective added 02/02/12: The main first names he used were Martin, Kristin, Nicholas or Nick, Marion, Doug, and Robert and Rob. The main last names he used were Lawson, Bachert, and Treasures. The main aliases are variations of MartyB, or names or email address that have zip codes in the St. Louis area, such as 63021, or 1013.)

He makes calls spoofing area code 632. That is a fake area code, sometimes used by telemarketers and collection agencies.

Item locations have included:
Dallas area
St. Louis area
Kansas, including Lawrence area
Montana
Illinois, including Springfield area

They had listed a 788T on eBay as item number 140652552204 under eBay ID kristinmb4 with a location of Ballwin, MO. They ended the listing and changed the eBay ID.

So far they have listed a 788T SSD, 744T, CL-8 and 552 on gear forums or eBay. They have provided fake serial numbers to inquiring parties, as confirmed by Jesse Parker of Sound Devices.

Has cited the following 788T serial numbers:
JC01101T1009
HP1410293008

They will provide pictures via email of printed FedEx label with their supposed address and your address when trying to close a deal.

Has claimed to be a police officer.
Has claimed that brother is a lawyer.

potentially fraudulent lens sale. buyer googled paypal info and hit this thread in the search results.
 
After I posted this update yesterday several people contacted me about losses that might be related to this guy. In the instances where they appeared to possibly be related I provided contact info for the detective. This morning I received a message from the detective that a new victim came forward yesterday, from Los Angeles, out $3500.


The detective also let me know of an additional name and email address that the scammer was using. Rob Treasures and baseballkid1983@gmail.com. I've updated the list in the main post.

I outed the guy on this (and other forums) before law enforcement was involved. When law enforcement got involved, they also got in touch with me. I, and others, provided much info to the lead detective during the investigation. I have been in regular communication with the detective and knew the suspect's identity and that an arrest was imminent, but could not post any info about his activity or updates because we did not want to tip him off before the warrants were executed (computers and phones were seized). At this point, it's about finding any additional victims and getting them added to the case.
 
A Facebook search on Kristin Bachert resolves to a profile of Kristin Marie Lawson where you can find a picture of her and Nick on a nice vacation at a beach recently. In her friends you can find Nick's facebook page. Just enough pictures that you get an idea of what type of life he was financing.
 
Hello. I am new to forum and only joined to communicate regarding the scammer, Nick Lawson.

Great JOB! to Maplecap for all his work gathering useful information.

I have communicated with Maplecap regarding this guy.

I know a guy that was in a band with him in 2010-2011.

Nick Lawson's name is Martin (Marty) Bachert.

The band was MartyB.

This former band-member brought Bachert's arrest to my attention.

It is believed that Marty posed as a Sony Music Entertainment agent to mislead band members.
