Saying hi!

Hi Guys

Long time lurker first time poster, just wanted to chime in and say hi and thanks for all the help many of you have given me without even realizing it!!

I got my HVX about a month ago and so far so good. P2 is great, so flexible and such a joy to work with. I'm checking out Tripods and its between the Vinten Pro6 or maybe a Libec as i've been hearing some good stuff about them. Feel free to let me know what you think!

Ok a couple of questions....Im a FCP user (6.0.2) and i'm trying to get into some good habits following a few of Barry's tips. First is P2CMS, it works great but for some reason it won't let change the User clip name, it says the cards locked (even when it isn't) any ideas?

Also anyone using a Mac for Blu-Ray authoring? I know the BD support is pretty non existent but if anyone uses a BD burner (Fastmac etc) i'd love to know what programs your using and what burners.

Anywho sorry for boring you, just wanted to say hi and hope to see ya around.

Aygie

On the tripod topic... I'm a huge fan of Vinten. I use a Vinten Vision 8 and love it. I also use a Sachtler 8sb as a backup with great success.

You're not the first person to post having that problem with P2CMS. Can you try the different P2CMS versions on my page and tell me if the problem is with all of them?
*oops, I didn't realize that Panasonic isn't offering the older versions for Mac anymore*

Is this problem with both real and virtual P2 cards?

For blu-ray, your only option is Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, I'm affraid. Heard somewhere you can burn a red laser DVD with an HD encoded file to it that plays in selected Blu-Ray players from Compressor (Ps3 being one of them) however, it does not allow menus and chapters, so DVDSTUDIO PRO 4 authoring with menus is out of the question.(for now)

You can, however, export a high bit rate H264 file from the FCP timeline using Quick Time conversion to Mpeg4 and play back on a PS3- that's probably the closest one can get to best quality HD display in a home setup bare connecting a DVCPRO HD Deck (or the camera :) ) to the TV display.

In DVD SP 4.1.x you can author HD-DVD red laser dye discs complete with menus that will play on HD DVD Toshiba set tops, not blu ray™ set tops.

Yes! This is what i've been using at the moment. Looks great.

Hopefully after Toshiba's announcement today things will change at Apple!

I'm doubtful. I love Apple products, but it appears to be looking more to revenue generated by its so called HD iTunes/AppleTV downloads, which are I believe are sub SD DVD quality.

But we'll see.
