Santa's late delivery :o))

Congrats! I ordered mine a few days ago, just in time to for the shipping companies to take the holidays off and all.

Can't wait to get it. I need a new car, but I spent almost all my earnings on this beautiful baby. I remember, after I had my first paycheck at my (first) job, the look on my all my coworkers' faces when answered their question, "So what'd you buy with your first paycheck" and I said "Nothing, I'm saving it for a $3400 camera"

Teenagers and their toys, huh? ;)

Teen age is long gone (got a couple of 'em at home now), but sometimes it feels like it's still with me. Anyway, I hope you get yours (Skater, I mean) soon, Virum : it's such a great piece of machinery, solid and heavy and also very delicate and precise at the same time... a pleasure to use ! German-priced yes, but German-built too...

Joe, I'll post some shots as soon as I can find the time, but you can see some great ones online on P+S Technik's site : http://www.pstechnik.de/en/skater.php (see "Online Demo Videos").

Santa is good to you. For the rest of us who are going to build the DIY skater version, would you be able to take some close up pics of the dollly so that we can see more detail and apply this to our? Also, there is a degree chart I believe that should have came with your skater..could you take a pic of this or scan it? If you had the time this would be great. One last thing..any idea what kind of material it is made of? I just don't have the 6000 bucks to hand over to the Germans just yet!:) Thanks.

Sure, what kind of detail pics do you have in mind ?

I can but I believe you can d/l that for free directly from the P+S Technik site. Let me know if it isn't the case.

I'm not a great DIY man, so I'm not 100 percent sure. First off, it's quite heavy and all metal except the wheels (obviously). That, to me, spells "steel". It is also very rigid. Some little minor parts are aluminum, like the orange rotating buttons that lock the wheels into position. The three dials around the wheels are probably aluminum as well, but apart from that, all the rest feels like forged steel directly from the Rühr Valley. Everything that I can see has been machined with extreme precision and looks and feels extremely professional.

Okay i did forget something...could you take a picture of the underside of the dolly? Sorry for being a pest. Salut.:)

Here are a couple of pics of the underside. Sorry they're not too good but I was rather in a hurry this morning...

None of the pics are working for me. Is it just pics of your new 100B and thats it?
Sorry to hear that, Skettalee. They seem to be working for everyone else... They're pics of a 100B on a P+S Technik Skater with a Chrosziel mattebox. The last three ones (in my post directly above yours) are detail pics of the underside of the Skater, as requested by Angrius.

Darn ! I dare not say... More than a DVX100 B... less than an HVX200... well, a bit above 4000 euros with the laser pointer and flight case... :undecided

But man, do I love this thing !!

What kinds of things do you plan on shooting with it?

Thanks a million Monglane! I think I'm even more confused than before that I'll figure it out. It's a piece of art.

It was designed primarily for tabletop photography and I've already used it to dynamically enhance shots of small objects that had to be included in a short movie.

But you can put it to many other tracking and panning uses, as can be seen in the various demos on P+S's site. It's really quite useful, especially on shoots where crew resources are too limited to build and operate a real dolly on tracks, or in places where guerrilla options such as a wheelchair cannot get or be moved around easily.

You're welcome, pal. And good luck to you ! It *does* seem awfully complex to replicate, but then again, I'm not the DIY type...
