Hey guys, in Israel, it appears i'm the only one hunting for anamorphic lens, so a got the Kowa 16d almost mint, for 70$.
i followed this thread but could someone please give me some more definitive answers?

1. on my GH2, i attach the rear thread to a canon 50mm FD with a clamp. that's fine.
2. what about the front thread? the 16D has some kind of cover and when you take it off (3 micro screws) it is screwed to an outer thread of the 16D.
but it also revealed some kind of a weird screw-on inner thread sizes.. very confusing.
any final answers on the exact thread size i need for mounting ?
3. i have a Vari ND 72mm. what's the best step up option to mount it ? (and where to get it from?)
4. i'll have to use diameter rings for CU's (what brand? where to buy?), how to put all those (+ND) in front of the 16D?

thanks for any info and tips. really important for me (wanna start shooting a feature with this crazy set up)

Get a filter clamp from eBay (seller redstan-theman). It screws in front of your anamorphic lens and gives you a nice 72mm thread to attach filters.

Wow, four months, and I just now seen this thread.

I just got a Sankor 16F from eBay (I nabbed it quick), since all the Century Optics (I think) 16:9 WS Converters are all sold out/discontinued.

Hope it will work on my JVC HD camcorder, along with my EnCinema 35mm/Canon 50mm lens. Gonna need to get a clamp to fit.

One thing I like to know, does anyone have this kind of lens, and if so, will I get the super wide (3:1) ratio? When I think about it for a moment, kinda wish we were back to the 4:3 modes, but I'm not quivering over it.

This gets exciting as it goes along.

It will barely work with 35mm adapter, you will get too wide aspect if your cam is 16:9 but with adapter you can get more than you need so you can crop later and get 2.4:1 anyway.
Probably You wont be able to get real true field of view of 50mm anamorphic and 35mm frame using this anamorphic for 16mm lens, i had one and you will get vignetting unless you have it glass to glass 50mm front to anamorphic rear glass, then there is a chance to get full field of view.IF only canon DSLR's recorded whole sensor in video mode that would be great, only pentax did it but with 30fps.

I got the Sankor 16F today, and played around with it by hand. You're right, there are some vignetting issues with it plus the focusing is off at times so there's no way I would show it off; however, resizing and cropping is needed (I edited test footage via VirtualDub). Focusing can be a tough act to follow -- I don't know if it's my lens (maybe need 55), or needing to work with the focal part of the Anamorphic lens -- as I read that it can be a challenge. Kinda wished I got a Nikon 55 with zoom option, but funding is kinda tight for me now.

Anyway, once I get VidAtlantic's clamp and with with both lenses, I hope to come up with something soon.

Thanks for the info, bwwd.

When I think about it now, It would be a wish to see all DSLRs/HDCamcorders to have the option upon of 21:9 squeezed (just like they did with the cameras/camcorders in the past to shoot native 4:3 and 16:9 squeezed) since they're coming out with 21:9 TVs, I suspect that will be a long ways coming.

Hello, does anyone know the differences between the sankor 16D and 16C? Is the rear lens width?

regards

You have posted this question 3 times. I have already replied to you in another thread http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?245619-First-steps-into-anamorph-land/page2.
Yes the only difference between the various Sankors (16C, 16F, 16D) is the width of the rear element.
16C has a rear diameter of 42mm, the thread is (I think) 40mm
16F has a rear diameter of 42mm and no thread
16D has a rear diameter of 52mm and is threaded

Hi Kostas, sorry I forgot to ask this on my last post, I am pretty new regarding DSLR world and anamorphic lenses. In your opinion what is the best of the Sankor lenses (D-C-F-S) to mount on a 5D or 7D?

Regards

I just saw the answer on one of your last posts.. Dont need to answer :)

Thank you

No worries :). That answer was referring to the best available options for the 5d.
While it is also valid for the 7d, you must keep in mind that with the crop sensor you may have also other available solutions (smaller rear threads).
For instance the Sankor C,F,S may vignette less on the 7d than on the 5d. But many thinks depend on how close you mount your anamorphic to the taking lens.
Good luck.

Hi guys!

I've got a few questions, and there are a tons of posts here, so I just ask it:)

I've just received a Kowa 2* for Bell and Howell lens.
1. I want to attach it to my Nikon 50mm 1.4 lens. The thinking that I order a 52-54mm step ring from e-bay, but I didn't know that will it align properly?
2. Pls help me to choose which close-up filter the best for my Kowa. I don't trust in those cheap and noname ones what's on ebay.

I have a kowa prominar 16 (not sure what exact model). The rear element is really really small (<40mm), however I was surprised when I tried attaching it to a nikon lens (55 macro) and discovered that it is not only beautiful and shows minnimal vigneting, but that it was way sharper than the sankor D and allows to focus down to 1.5meters.
