Sankor/Kowa Anamorphic Lens Discussion and Footage

So i´m a bit confused now. I´ve been testing the Sankor anamorphic attachment and it does not make the bokeh look like the usual x2 anamorphic. You get lens flares, yeah, but the optical characteristics of anamorphic lenses are not so much in there. Weird.

Hey Mac. So how do you mean? I just posted some shots tonight in the 7d area. "Anamorphic shootout". Kowa 16A and ISCO Kiptar. Do these pics give the bokeh look that you are referring to? Do you have any footy that does? Just wondering....

which Sankor is it?
I have a 16-C that is in every aspect 2x anamorphic giving some flare and artefacts galore. too bad it is not a standard thread

I bought a Kowa x2 8-Z anamorphic adaptor more than a year ago to use with my super8 camera. I finally did not use it.
I wonder if I could not sell it to one of you as this is sure the results will be stunning with a hi-end digital camera.
I was really impressed by the videos provided on the the first page of this topic.
Mine is fitted with the hard-to-find 50mm-52mm ring adaptor so that the rear thread is a M52.
Send me a message in PM for more details.

cheers

Damian

yes they could but with a few limitations. first is the obvious heavy weight : those need support. a step ring will not suffice. a proper holder is needed to keep it tight and the barrel upright so you don't skew your pictures when focusing.
then comes the issue of vignetting : such long barrel lenses will demand a telephoto to get rid of the tunnel effect. expect 85 to 135 on a 7D maybe more on fullframe unlesss you plan to crop at least a third of the picture. detach the front part and try until you find a good combination for the rear glass coupling.
the 1st thing to check is their focus throw. if markings on the focusing ring go down to anything useable (5ft is rare and good, 15ft common but troublesome, 50ft has little use indoors)...

the hypergonar on the left is very good opticwise, kowa on the right should be great too, the middle one i don't recognise it

hello,...n thanku for replyin,.....but u think its possible that 1 could strip the front anamorphic element,..(if there is 1 that can be),......and maybe lessen the length this way and then mount onto the taking lens,....

yes those 3 seem to be projection lens + adapter bracket + anamorphic attachment.
the later part is the one you want to detach and apply in front of your dslr lens, the rest is of no use for shooting.

that really seems like too much to ask from a novice like me ,I might mess them up for good ,...anybody else wants to give it a shot,...im willing to put them all up for sale,...how does $400 a piece sound???,.....anyone,...?? pm me with offers,...

Just try unscrewing the front parts! For example, on the hypergonar it should unscrew right around the point where the top-most silver ring in your photo is.

I am waitng for my KOWA 8z to arrive. I want to use it on my Nikkor primes whis has 52mm threads. Is the Kowa 50mm? So I only need an stepdown from 52mm - 50mm?
Is that all? How do I align the Kowa so its align right?
If I don´t screw it on tight on the thread (to make it align) how do I use the focus ring on the Kowa?

Hey guys, jumping in here. I'm thinking of getting a Sankor Anamorphic 16c to use on a 5DmII or 7D. I've gone through/skimmed the previous pages in this thread, and it seems to be one of the most liked lenses mentioned here. Am I right?

Sounds excellent, I have the Sankor 16D, and it is lovely, very sharp and can just about use a 50mm Nikon on it with some vignetting but with a russian Helios 58mm the vignette is pretty much gone, that is if your using the full 3.56 aspect ratio, but I normaly crop to 2.67/2.40 as its more friendy. Check out this video for some footage of the 16D.
Cheers
