Mother of all dolly shots.
Footage taken from a streetcar cruising Market Street, San Francisco, 1905 with music from Air.
Totally hypnotic--Enjoy!

Market Street from about Powell toward the Ferry Building. Fantastic. I think I've seen that shot before, but thanks for putting it up! I miss my City.

Absolutely fascinating. So candid and really interesting to watch. But, I must be in a funk today. While watching it, I couldn't help but think, "man, all these people are dead."

Now I'm a funk, too.

Thanks.

lol. Sorry. Can't help it. Watching classic movies from the 30's and 40's as a kid, my brother and I would make a habit of pointing out the ingenue and saying, "that incredibly hot woman right there is either really old or dead." So, it must run in the family. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Someone posted that Kodak test footage a few days ago and I basically became infatuated with that 2nd model after just one viewing. Realizing that she would be a hundred years old today made me sad. I've seen a lot of old photos and very few are as captivating as that somewhat clinical emulsion test footage.

Did anyone else have to turn the audio off due to the high pitched frequency screaming through it?

Pretty crazy shot, really.

Thanks for mentioning that. Just watched it--- definitely captivating.

That's unfortunate because the music goes really well with that clip. I saw similar comments on the Youtube page but don't have any audio problems at all.

I wonder if it's one of those pitches only some people can hear. Like that text message alert some people had on their phones that "old people couldn't hear." A couple of kids in my old youth group had that active and I'd take their phones if I heard that crap go off. It was so irritating. It was the vuvuzela of 2008.

I've been reminded of my "odd and questionable" attraction to Ms. Kirsten Dunst. Maybe that explains it all?

Interesting to compare to this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vqcz_tllnwM&feature=player_embedded#at=46

The same shot 100 years later.

Everything has changed and nothing has changed. People seem to have an unhealthy fearlessness about the F Market streetcars. The whole time I'm watching, I keep hoping everyone will make it out of the way.

1905 looks like pandemonium by comparison! I mean, look at the prime example of natural selection at work at 1:10. Have you ever looked down into the cable trough on one of today's cable car lines?! I have no concept of how that kid didn't get stuck in there. Incredibly cool film there.

Cool video. Kind of reminds me of Cambodian traffic where people just cut across each other.
