Hi
Good review of this lens on Phillip Blooms blog.
As I am considering a Canon 351.4L I'd like to find out mire about this much less expensive alternative.

Has anyone reading this owned any Samyang lenses?
Wondering how it compares with more expensive options, or say, the Sigma 301.4...

I think Samyang lenses have proved to be excellent lenses regardless of price. No brainer if you need that focal length.

I suppose unfortunately the only option for purchasing is over the web...as a general rule I always try out a lens before buying....whether that means renting, or buying from a brick and mortar with the option of returning.

Samyang is sold under several different names. You might find it at your local store. The 35 is fairly new but the 85 is readily available.

Hi there.

Their lenses are good for our video needs.

See the sample footage I took when the 7d came out:

Lens used:
Samyang 85mm f/1.4
Samyang 8mm f/3.5

Thanks!

Johnnie

samyang glass is sold under many, many, many brand names:
Samyang, Rokinon, Vivitar, Polar, Bower, Opteka, Falcon...

and it seems to be truly great, as they seem to be focusing not just on sharpness, but also on more important but less measurable qualities, like bokeh

check out these bokeh tests: the samyang 85mm f/1.4 is much, much closer to the way more expensive canon 85mm f/1.2 or zeiss 85mm f/1.4 than to the canon 85mm f/1.8

I already have a great 35mm and 90mm (leitz vintage), but I'll think about the 8mm and the 14mm, samyang is doing a great job

Mind you that the 8mm and the 14mm CAN NOT have a screw in filter like the fader ND to be attached.

Thank you.

Johnnie

yes, I know, thanks

it's pretty common on very wide lenses, the other one I'm looking into has that issue as well (tokina 16-28)

I don't think it's a very big deal for ultra wide lenses, which I don't mind stopping down as much as I'd do on a 90mm
