To date, the best software I found to transcode and minimize banding is RM movie converter for mac. However, it only does a good job when converting H265 to H264. Prores is messed up.
I use FCPX then to convert h264 to prores.
No doubt that this workflow is time consuming, but I noticed much less artifacts when doing a grade.
hey diegocervo. can you supply a download link to the converter you found. it seems when i googled it, it brought up a ton of different conveyers with different names.

Can someone provide a good raw h265 clips with tones for highlight and other with shades of gray and low light areas to test different software and format for transcoding quality, banding, etc.?
+1All this work just makes me wish for H265 support in Premiere. From what people are getting from transcoded files, native editing must be incredible. I want the image quality without the large files darnit! Or the ability to transcode to Cineform or DNxHD instead of ProRes.
