Samsung NX1 - all sorts of tests imaginable

Mac,

Thanks for FINALLY posting this ;) There are some amazing shots in there. Really fantastic. You made the NX1 sing.

I'd love to know some BTS stuff, like:

How involved were you in the grade? I'm curious how much the image was pushed around.

Siider or dolly?

What'd you use for lighting in the garage? Both for the interview and the work, especially the engine and under the lift.
I have a ton of other questions...

I had the absolute pleasure of contributing to Mac's beautiful video.

The light is a custom-designed, big high-CRI 1000W LED fixture made by my friend and I. It's very much inspired by our previous work with Mac. He got gorgeous results working with big fixtures like Kino-Flo Image 80s and we wanted to see if we could build something similar, but better quality light and also cheaper, easier to transport, lighter, brighter, less fragile, etc.

Months of work later... we have it working! It's approx. 1000 actual watts of power draw, not equivalent wattage or any of that BS... so we believe it can compete with the current big, soft, expensive HMI / Tungsten / Fluoro mega-fixtures well and do a few new things too :)

We're gearing up for a production run soon - just finalizing high-speed flicker-free dimming for daylight / tungsten (any thoughts from DVXusers on whether DMX would be useful?). If there's any interest in buying or renting (or have any suggestions!), email me at boacinema (at) gmail (dot) com.

I just re-watched it for like the tenth time. Super impressed. That light is spectacular. Some of those cockpit driving shots...the color... And that last shot is pretty great too.

Hi man!
I did the grading myself. It is not a very aggressive grading, you can actually have a look at the before and after JPEG a couple pages back on this thread.

I did use two different sliders, most of the sots indoors were done with a Cineslider that was in bad shape so it was really bumpy, the outdoors dolly shots were done with a motorized SmartSLIDER Reflex, they were very nice to let me use one of their units and I have very positive things to say about it.

I did some tests of the two 16-50mm Samsung lenses.
The big brother wins of course, but the PZ lens is such a small and compact lens that it can be useful for gimbal set ups.

Any clue if this new Digital Image Stabilization helps with rolling shutter? Does it crop?

Samsung continues to amaze.

Just installed and tried dis. Yes it crops, but not by much as far as I can tell. Looks to work really well so far and will be doing some more tests tomorrow evening.
