Samsung NX1 - 4K @ H.265!!!!

how is Samsung with still images? I love my gh4 for video but still want a still camera... I'd love a camera that was good at both

Someone on another forum mentioned that the flange to focal distance of the Samsung mount is closer to 25mm than to the 15-20mm which is standard on other mirrorless cameras. That essentially this means that mirrorless lenses designed for those systems by third parties would not be easily ported to the Samsung mount.

Honestly I know nothing about this and haven't looked into it so I don't know how true a statement that is. But it seems to me that most third party APS-C lenses would be develped for Nikon/Canon mirrorbox systems and then ported to mirrorless mounts. If that's the case, we have nothing to worry about with the Samsung mount.

The benefit is that this is an APS-C sensor and most third party lenses are developed for APS-C sensors rather than say m4/3.

It's got resolution, but colours... Looks like it would be shot on smartphone.

Implementation of the H.265 CODEC is everything, just like it was with H.264 when it first came out. ( some companies produced great looking H.264 and with others it was horrible )

Hey I have a questions of new Samsong camera.
1) what is backlight sensor? Good for low light?
2) Samsong lens family is nice? Gooder than Pansonic m43? Who shotted with it before?
3) H265 Codac is good one too? Everyone say good from stream and pretty like preross. But will he fall apart in computer if color correct?

1) I think this is similar in design to the Exmor R technology where the circuitry doesn't get in the way of the light falling onto the photosites.
2) I haven't used Samsung glass.
3) H.265 from what I gather is the same in quality to H.264 but at 1/10th the size.

Don't know anything about Samsung yet but watched a couple videos on them today and they also just released a couple lenses to go with this camera that look pretty nice and are also finger print and dust proof or something. The photos looked like they had shallower depth of field than a gh4 but there are a ton of things I would also need I don't know if they have (audio, low light capability, focus peaking, recording limit, in camera settings). I'm looking forward to finding out though

Nice video. On a side note, if anyone else is wondering what music it almost but not quite sounds like, it's the Sunshine movie soundtrack.

Nice video. This looks better than GH4 footage IMO, although I'm only judging it in 1080 on my monitor. The resolution is tack sharp, and the colors actually look quite nice to me.
One little thing I'm noticing: I'm not sure if it is just YouTube's compression, but the detail around the edges of objects seems to throw the codec for a loop.

Two places I noticed this are 0:12, where the detail being revealed behind a rock as we scroll forward goes haywire and only sharpens up once it is far enough away from the rock that is moving.

The second is around 1:27, watch the edge of the trees I circled in this screen shot:

Not quite, Exmor R has the circuitry running... inside, in between layers, for lack of a better description. For the purpose of image capturing, it is no different than backside illumination, since the circuit traces don't get in the way of the photosites. But backside illumination has the circuitry for the pixels running on the back side of the sensor.

The difference is really that Sony came up with their own way to do BSI, whereas Samsung used a tried and true method commonly found in image sensors used in other industries/sectors.

Why are we not talking more about this camera? It appears to be a GH4 that is $300 cheaper with an APS-C sensor and a higher bitrate 4K mode.

But this is a mirrorless camera with a 25mm flange to focal distance. Surely there are plenty of mechanical adapters for Nikon or Canon mount lenses that have aperture rings.

I think the Samsung NX1 is an unproven camera, so nobody really know how it stacks up against the GH4 or the A7S. Hopefully somebody will do a proper test so this issue can be cleared up.

I like what I ve seen so far...and the specs are great of course! I d love to learn more about that camera! Body only seems to be very well priced but if somebody wants to adapt a full kit for serious work it will cost around 4400$ without extra batteries and media:

I would be skeptical to invest so much money (for my standards) in such a new untested system...I dont know...time will tell...
By the way, does anybody knows if that commercial was shot with that camera??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPuiRYHZSOU looks great!

Yes...exactly what @TheDingo just said...
