"Sample location footage" 720p

Was the opening star time-lapse done on film or a dslr?

I actually shot that myself on my DLSR.

And the Afghan thing we did with a Fisher 11 dolly. I should point out that the Afghan shots at the very end were done with a varicam about 6 months before the rest. Everything else, aside from the opening night timelapse, was all HVX.

The Afghan set...

By far best I've see, really matched up well with the Varicam. If you wouldn't have said that was Varicam in the last shot I don't think I would have known. Great job!

That really is some gorgeous footage to watch. Looks like a lot of fun filming as well.

My favorite shot was the girl walking in the woods. It almost looked like you lit that scene and filmed it on a sound stage, it was so nice.

I would really appreciate it, if you would share your settings.

Thanks for sharing. Great footage, in my humble opinion.

I've downloaded this file to my Mac G5 Quad Desktop three times and each time it starts off as a 205MB download but ends up on the DT as between 160 and 167MB and I get an error message with every application I try to open it with.

Very frustrating as I'd love to see it!

I had the same problem but it worked out after I emptied the cache... Great looking footage! (I just didn't like the handheld stuff, it's too shaky for my taste)

Emptied the cache - downloaded again - still no luck.
But thanks for the suggestion, cordvision.

I normally have no problem at all with movie downloads.

I will try to upload an alernate version tomorrow afternoon for those who are having trouble.

Pretty Nice

Pretty Nice

I would say that the style is what makes the footage so nice. The footage itself looked a bit grainy. The night scene at the beginning looked as if the mountains needed softer edges. A few of the shots were very pro and they made for a nice feel.

Please post your settings. Also, when that guy was on the laptop, how did you move in on the scene like that?

Nice work! Thanks for the vid!

Okay, here's a 157MB Windows media version, which I just double-checked.

The MOV file should be 207 megs.

Let me know if this helps.

The opening shot is done on a Canon DLSR, which is why it is too crisp. That's basically a 4K clip! I should have softened it up a bit to make it match.

Here is how we did the laptop scene at the creek. We rehearsed the move many times because it was moving on 4 axes -- dolly in, pan, tilt, and boom down.

Without kissing anyones rear: supposing that none of the shots had a feature budget, the ALL looked pro.
There´s some grain and banding, but I guess the web compression also helps to that...

Again: did you do any special grading or post processing with the shots?

For post I work on Premiere Pro 2 with Cineform's Aspect HD. I typically added about 5-10% of saturation and played around with the contrast and shadows/highlights on some of the shots. Nothing too serious. I enjoy editing a lot.

I'll see if I can get the DP to post here about the camera settings.

Picture is beautiful, but the I was surprises that the laptop scene at the creek was done on a dolly. I would have expected a much more stable shot. (I saw the samething in the forth clip (with the 2 woman). But the third clip with that look like head lock was perfect(except a small movement at the end).

I loved the last part with the taliban or whatever ;) but it felt like you were always going alittle to far of what your wanted then correcting, and doing it again. Also it show other unwanted movement(head didn't resist ennuf I think?) Well like the 2 other dolly shot.

Ofcourse all shot without any kind tripod/dolly/streadycam/diy steadycam look handheld, but !!! it handheld ;) Still some are very well shot for handheld

It great work, and look very good. I'll be proud to have content like that... But I know that I would want to find a way to get better dolly shot and handheld shot. If you know the real why and what to do better, let me know ;) If you want me to shutup let me know;), but keep posting video, I'll be watching them.

Windows Media Player doesn't like this file either - it stutters along and then just after the two guys light-up and we're moving towards some people by a river(?) it just cuts off dead. File shows as 115MB.

From what I've seen, there are some lovely pictures but the camera's so wobbly it makes me feel slightly sick - especially the girl walking with the flower in her hand and when the camera's looking up through the trees.

I feel the distant shot of vehicle on the beach is uncomfortably shakey too.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't like so much camera shake - it just looks like bad photography to me. If you have a moving subject, a little (smooth'ish) camera movement can add a lot to it, but I think it's way over the limit of acceptability here.

The transition to the girl and child is very bad - double vision on the mountain if you look at it. Dissolving to a similar shot is always tricky.

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear but you're asking for opinions and this is mine.

Hopefully, I'll put some footage up here soon and you can tell me what you think.

I'd like to watch the whole thing if I can - I'll download the QT file again in case it will work on my G5 now.

Tried to download the WMV from the link on your first post (the .mov's gone) and that stopped at 70MB.

andy i'm not sure why some people are having trouble with these files and others are not. perhaps my website host is messing up, if you are not able to download the whole file. very strange.

yeah lots of the shoot was very shaky. this was just a warmup for us. we need to work on smoother shooting, for sure.

Amazing Footage (Although a little shakey). Really moving. Also, the music along with this piece is an excellent choice. People often forget just how much sound and score can make.

What music track is that?
