on the merlin, were you using the arm and vest or just the sled?

Man, I had that 55 Nikon and sold it like a dumbass. I miss that lens. I bought it used for $30 bucks.

My 55 is 1978 I guess - saw one the other day for 150uk nearly bought it as a spare

On the merlin I was wearing the vest on that occasion - its the only time I have ever worn it (in anger ie on a shoot)

Vesting up does not suit my RnG superspeed style of shooting

Practicing at home I still dont like the vest and merlin combo

I dont think the merlin even loaded is heavy enough to drive the vest properly

I get better results with the merlin and no vest

I have a Plilot too which is the appropriate sled for the vest IMO you can load it enough to drive the arm properly which with a DSLR will mean upping the load with rails and a battery or something - The pilot arm IMO runs best at Full Capacity (which is not possible with a merlin)

Ive buckled the Pilot vest.. http://hbsboard.com/index.php/topic,3637.15.html

My Pilot is pretty much unused because it doesnt fit into my small light fast methodology

my most used stabiliser is the blackbird but Ive pimped it no end to add inertia and give it extra rigidity - it looks like a dogs breakfast now to the annoyance of Rich at CMR who wanted my footage for his reel until he found out Im flying a badboy upgrade that is so heavy 30s is the max shot !

I was thinking about getting the Merlin Vest and Arm and modding to fit my glidecam HD4000. I tried out the Merlin but I had not luck with it all. I still need to practice with my "Steadicam" shots. I still suck big time with getting at getting it perfectly smooth.

I'm with you on RnG. that's how I do it as well. But sometimes I really wish I had that vest support especially because I do a lot of long one take shots.

I cant see what shot is ever going to be interesting for more than 30seconds in the cut - depends what you are shooting of course - I dont do weddings - not that Im implying that you do !
