My camera with my smallest lens weights 4 pounds 3 ounces by itself, and when I add audio it weights 5 pounds 9 ounces.

Are the legs that come with each package very good? I currently have theManfrotto 055XPROB and the 501HDV head. I figured I would need to upgrade my legs too, but if you guys think the 055's are sufficient, I can always just upgrade the head by itself.

I have a Sachtler tripod that is compatible with the CineDSLR plate. I considered buying one, but I can't figure out what the point of it is.

Anyone shooting "Cine-style" with a DSLR is likely going to need rails, follow focus and a mattebox for ND filters. The Cine DSLR plate was designed to have the plate attach directly to the camera. There's no way to mount rails to this plate, so when you need them, you'll be mounting the camera to something else and then adding the tripod release plate to the bottom of that.

I appreciate the plate's long sliding range and the block to keep the camera from rotating is great, but nothing else about this product makes sense to me. I've searched online, and unlike most DSLR products, there are no photos of this plate showing sample rigs.

If I am missing something and this plate works with a rail system, I hope someone will post photos or an explanation!

I'm not using a matte box system, I just want a great tripod head that I can get really smooth pans/tilts with. My 501hdv is meh, have to use a rubberband to get consistent results.

Is the Libec LS38 gear or friction, and does it work with only a 3.5-4 pound camera/lens combo?
