Ok, for all your questions and more BTS footage and audio comentaries we were thinking in making a DVD with all those contents but i am not sure if all the efforts and time to make it would be in compensation if only 10 or 12 people are interested in a copy.

That will not be an issue, MacGregor. The word will get out. I wager Similo would be as popular, if not more so than "Broken". As long as it matched that DVD for behind the scenes.

I've yet to watch BROKEN'S BTS, but as far as the film itself, I wasn't nearly as impressed as I was with SIMILO, especially with regards to the look of the camera. Yes, some cool stuff was done with BROKEN with regards to FX, but the story just made no sense to me.

I'm with you there Norm. I liked the look, but the story.... eh....

And I'm with both of you... though I did find the BTS stuff REALLY interesting. I don't regret buying the DVD, but I didn't really enjoy the story much.

Yeah the Broken story was weak. But i did enjoy the main villain for some reason. Sometimes I just like it when the bad guy puts on a bib and commences to chewing up the scenery.

I just had to give my hats off to this one.
Beautiful. Definitely one of the best DVX footage I have seen.
I actually didn't like the story at first because it felt slow.

However. after watching it a few times, this one actually grew on me and I began to appreciate it more in terms of concept of the story.

Only beef I had, is that it would have been nice to hear dialogue between actors instead of it being a complete narrated piece. Even hearing her cry etc... would have been nice.

Overall, great work. Hopefully I can aspire to get quality like this onto a television screen (of my own personal project) before I die lol.

Also, like any other movie, not everyone will be happy with it. There's always going to be pros and cons. But that's what is needed to everyone's work better for the next time around.

What do you think?

Depending on the final price of the DVD, I'd buy a few copies for next year's Christmas gifts.

Cram a bunch of BTS stuff and a 'Making of' featurette in there, and I'd pay up to $20, maybe $25 if I'm in a good mood.

$20 is cool. Make sure you pack in the behind the scenes. Thats what made me buy broken and I think thats whats going to make yours sell. The hot new thing is behind the scenes as proved by Peter jackson. All the movie mags are talking about how more and more movie makers are following him and creating behind the scenes sites and DVDs.

Jdanstan you PM box is full...

Also, what I liked about BROKEN is that in the BTS stuff they actually explained how they accomplished things, and is got me hooked. If you included like mini tutorial type stuff that would be awesome too.

yes the REAL key to selling a ton of DVD's of a short film

A) making a strikingly awesome looking movie
B) make the dvd 90% instructional

you want aspiring amateurs and pro/ams like us to look at it and say
S H I T ... I wish I knew how to do that

You've got "A" covered. Now if you can deliver on "B" people will line up to pay $20.
I'm not talking once through the movie with commentary. I'm talking you sitting behind your NLE with screengrabs saying ..."OK this was the raw footage and this is what it looks like when I do this ... you just drag the flare from over here ... nad place it there..." etc.

Broken is a REALLY good model for this, only your film looks and is better. So I would highly suggest getting your hands on a Broken DVD as a matter of research. These guys sold thousands and thousands of units. Now there trailer is hookier than anything you could offer because it's action horror, so that sold a lot of units for them too, but you could do it on the buzz this thing already has and by selling it as a "how to make your movies look this good" type thing.

here's the broken website:

Yep- J's on the money there. For just the Short I'd pay about $7, for the short with commentary probably about $10. With lots of BTS faeaturesa how to's, and explainers (a la Broken) $20 no problem.
