GH2 RW-221 remote doesn't work with Panasonic GH2 v1.1 firmware!?

Howdie!

Have other people noticed that their Pixel RW-221 wireless remote control doesn't work with their Panasonic GH2 camera anymore, if they have updated GH2's firmware into v1.1?

I used RW-221 successfully with v.1.0 firmware, but now with v1.1 firmware camera just tells me, that external microphone is attached!!!

Am I doing something wrong? Can I go bak into v1.0 firmware by any means? I don't need hacked GH2 firmware, I'm very pleased with the quality of 17 MBits/s AVCHD video that my official Panasonic firmware produces. I would just like to get my RW-221 to work like it did previously! :crybaby:

Has Panasonic deliberately blocked 3rd party remotes from working with their cameras? :kali:
Please HELP!

I have 2 "chinese" remotes, 1 is an intervalometer and 1 is a simple trigger. Both work without any problems with the newest update.

My guess is you did not insert the cable deep enough to contact all the connections on the tip. I have shaved the plastic around the base of my connectors to make it easier to insert into the camera.

Interesting thought aljudy. Would you mind telling me if you have exactly the same camera, camera firmware and remote as I have (Panasonic GH2 v1.1 + Pixel RW-221)?

I just wonder why this problem has arised in my camera AFTER updating the firmware of GH2? I have inserted the connector as far as it goes or has gone previously. But if nothing else helps, I will try shaving the plastic aroung the connector like you suggest.

My remote with timer is a cheap one from Hong Kong that I bought when I was only using a GH1 about two years ago. I then bought a GH2 and it continued to work. Then I updated the firmware and have hacked my GH2 (as I also hacked my GH1) and this timer remote has continued to work. I had intermittent problems when I bought it and noticed the need to shave the connector to consistently get it inserted so it would connect properly... Al
EDIT: Take a look at this old post from the summer of 2010 where photos of the remote I own is shown. My post on page 2 says that I had to open it to fix it, and shave the connector. It has worked since then.

Okay, would you mind attaching any macro close-up photo of your reshaped connector etc? I'm also interested to hear, what is the exact model of your remote. The thread, you linked to, has a couple of different remotes mentioned I believe.

Have you tried your remote with official Panasonic v1.0 and v1.1 firmware? Ie. does hacked firmware work better with cheap chinese remotes?

Simply downgrade the GH2 V1.0 firmware and see if it works. Then you'll know.

Link for firmware: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/330/new-gh2-firmware-leak

You can upgrade and downgrade as many times as you want without harming your camera.

Thanks for the link and help. I didn't know it was possible to downgrade to v1.0E firmware of GH2. Really good news if downgrading really works.

I was able to download using the first download link (GH"_V10E.zip 15 603 599 bytes), another didn't exist anymore - I hope they were the exact same zip file and firmware in both of them, so getting another is enough. =)

Okay,

Now you all know, that I'm officially a very dumb person!!

:-Dum(DBG)::-Dum(DBG)::-Dum(DBG)::-Dum(DBG):

I just thought I would try to install older body firmware for GH2. Before that I however decided to test my remote still once again. Now I was however "bright" enough to try to connect the cable also the other way round. HIP HEY HOORAY --> Remote works like it did previously with v1.0 firmware!

Lesson learned: Put (straight) connector with 2 plastic rings into receiver. Put (angled) connector with 3 plastic rings into camera body! If you connect the other way round, you get message about external microphone.
