The other advantage to using a mixer like the MixPre-D is the monitor return. Simply run the headphone out of the camera to the monitor return input of the mixer and you can switch back and forth between listening from the camera to listening from the mixer (very helpful for tracing signal problems) with the push of a button. You don't need a second set of headphones, and you can control your camera monitor levels with the mixer.
