Run Windows on an Intel Mac

Maybe you don't need to choose anymore about which platform you want to use for editing...

While not technically supported, it's a slick and easy way to run Windows on one of the new Intel-based Macs. It even comes with drivers for the Mac hardware. Nice. This is the last barrier for me (I'm a Windows developer by day, video/HD nerd by night).

So with this arrangement, perhaps you don't need to choose. I'm going to buy a Macbook Pro I think, and with any luck (and lots of flames until then) I can run Avid, and run Final Cut as well. Hey, just having that great hardware would be amazing enough for me, but to run OS X and FCP as well, that's a proposition I can't easily pass up.

This is really great news for Apple!

Think of all the people who have been thinking about switching to a Mac but still have a need run windows apps. Apple will be selling alot more machines now!

This is shocking!!! I never thought I would see the day that Apple would allow Windows to be duel booted on a Mac. It's a great move to gain market share, but it makes me a little sad :( b/c the mac using population can no longer thumb their noses at the rest of the computer world :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) .

Apple never objected to running Windows on their hardware, and said from the start they wouldn't do anything to prevent it.

It really is a win-win for Apple. They'll sell hardware for sure, and maybe make some new converts.

Sure..one computer to rule them all!

It's a nice option for mac users that need the occasional windows program now and then.

Except that arrangement isn't legal.

I stopped at the Apple Store at lunch and bought the 2 GHz model. Honestly, the first thing I'm interested to see is if I can get Avid Xpress Pro HD to run on the Windows partition. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

That is cool, I don't know why you would ever want to run windows on a mac but to each his own. Very cool

Because some people prefer to use macs at home, but have to use windows at work...Now, they can do work at home without the need of a company laptop all the time.

Because mac users have never had the game support windows had...now they do

Because Avid no longer makes mac based systems, and many faithful mac users like using avid but don't want a windows machine.

And last on my list: Just because they can.

Starting to make sense?

Imagine being a Windows developer who loves the Apple hardware and the Apple video apps (that would be me). Now imagine you also want a solid laptop that can run Visual Studio "like butter" but you hate the stuff that Dell, HP, etc., are putting out there (that's me as well).

High performance laptops are still expensive compared to desktops, so you kind of accept that they won't be inexpensive. But when I priced them out, the Apple was about the same or less for the same specs. When I realized that, the Apple was a no-brainer, and I scurried off to the store at lunch. I have a pretty black box now with a 15" shiny laptop inside.

You don't even know how stoked I am!

Posting before you decide you love OSX somuch more then windows you quit your day job for something new :D

I was on the fence as to whether or not to switch to Mac later this year, but this announcement seals the deal for me. I am switching. Still using Avid, but I'm switching none the less. God bless Apple for making this easier on me. :)

I hate Mac OS. Give me windows or even better Linux any day. However I wish I could use FCP and FCP's associated programmes. That would be cool.

I prefer Linux above all also.

However I'd take the reliability and simplicity of Mac OS X over Windows XP any day of the week.

Perhaps by that time it will have a blu-ray recorder in it.

I wouldn't count on that dream.

Apple has said they would support both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. But they also said they would not put a HD burner in their machine until encryption and security against piracy was improved (see one of the big reasons for the switch to intel.)

And to top it off...the format war. Where Sony was basically handed a win for once in their life, and they had to go and drop the ball (and now Samsung as well) as always and delay the release.

You will most likely have to look to external burners and pick which format you want.

Avid DOES still make Mac Based editing systems. While Symphony Nitris and DS Nitris ARE only PC based both Xpress Pro and Media Composer Adrenaline run on Mac as well as PC. We sell them on Mac all the time.

Even if I could run windows on a mac, why would I want to?:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
